Have you ever had a "stress interview"?
I'm another hopeless/hopeful 2009 graduate looking for a job. Been on several interviews.. went to one a couple weeks ago that was totally different from anything I'd experienced!
My interview was scheduled for 2.30pm so I arrived at 2.20pm and was told to come back at 3pm because they were late. So I arrived back at 2.55pm and was left to wait in a room all on my own until 3.30pm.
Then 3men+1woman came in, plonked themselves down with a small hello to me, and started discussing amongst themselves the applicant they had interviewed that morning! And told me "she was ****!" (I couldn't believe they told me that and swore)
I had to do a presentation about a controversial topic. I did something about the Middle East. It went fine. THen I got grilled about religion. The boss man said something along the lines of "I don't believe in God, its such ********, do YOU believe in God?"
I asked whether I was going to be judged on that? They all said NO. So I said, yeah I believe in God.
The interview lasted 2 hours, each person in the room grilled me while the rest studied my body language. And it wasn't a great grilling either. I'd get like 3 questions fired at me in one go and when I began to answer I'd immediately be told "yeh yeh thats boring, say something interesting" or "you really don't seem intelligent" or "yeh yeh I'm bored now."
I was asked "if you don't get this job will you give up and become a prostitute? ha ha ha!" to which all the male interviewers laughed. The lady interviewer was sat in her chair with her feet up. I wanted to burst out crying a couple of times but held it together... it was a horrible interview..
Anyway when I got home I was puzzling over whether interviewers could be so rude?? or whether it was some 'technique'.. then I read about the 'stress interview' technique online and I guess they must have been doing that although they did go a little too far in my opinion (either that or they really were all just mean people). They rang me up 4 days later saying they had a hard time deciding whether to hire me or not as I handled it well (they were probably lying to soften the blow?) but that they wouldn't hire me.
Anyone had a stress interview and passed it?
