Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
cuz they look ugly really. and then they take the mick out of people who they think are ugly, which in fact is them cuz they're the ones with the fake face.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
i wear the basics to college every day, and then more if im to go out in the evening or something.
i know that in reality its quite silly to cover up your real face, but its an insecurity thing. especially when your in an environment where all the other girls are wearing make up.
i tried going to college for a few weeks without putting any on, and i actually got some positive response, but i still only lasted 3-4 days. although i didnt look terrible i felt as though i looked like a mess...as i hadnt made an effort like i usually do i felt as though i HAD to look worse.
it really is quite silly, and i think most girls understand that they dont need it, but in this competative world we feel we need to at least TRY to look our very best.

Completely OT here but what are you actually applying for at Exeter? Because there isn't anything here with that name! I'm just wondering because there are so few Exeter/Classics people on here!

I thought make-up (at least, foundation/blush/etc.) generally made one's skin look worse (or is that only if you do it badly?) That is, when you see pictures of celebrities without makeup, they often have very bad skin, and I suppose they'd wear a lot of makeup regularly.

Isn't it mainly guys who take the mick out of girls who don't wear any make-up? (I don't speak from experience, but I would've assumed that )

Hey, stop hijacking mah thread! (Though Exeter rocks; I'm almost definitely applying there for Law.)

sometimes, yes, but as people get older, they soon realise, the girls that dint wear much makeup, spend less time getting ready, and because they are comfortable with the way they look they're not constantly talking about how they look and having to look in car mirrirs/ shop windows to check if their makeup is still intact

I mean, obviously it can really improve one's appearance, but doesn't one's "real" face start to look very drab in comparison? I thought it made one look older faster, too?
Also, how do people manage to spare the time not only to put it on, but also take it off? It just seems to be so much of a hassle (please correct me if I'm wrong.)
Granted, I'm not very good with cosmetics so maybe that's why I don't understand, but someone professional once did my make-up, and, though I looked quite nice, it still felt really fake - like wearing a mask .
Thoughts?
(I only ever use sunscreen/moisturiser and lip balm, because I personally prefer being natural, but am I missing out on something really good here? Thanks! )
I wear makeup everyday pretty much. Even if I'm just spending the day at home I'll wear it sometimes as it's what I feel comfortable in. I feel really insecure and not really myself without it (I know it's sad). I've been wearing atleast some makeup from a early age and so I guess I'm used to it.
I have clear skin, I hardly ever break out in spots thankfully but I still feel the need to put makeup on my skin as it's what I prefer. I have had a lot of people ask me why I wear it all the time which can get annoying. I think it's not anyone elses business what I put on my face.
I find it annoying when I see girls who are naturally pretty but who wear no makeup at all. I mean if they just put some mascara and a bit of blusher on they could look so much prettier! I just don't get why girls would rather not wear a little makeup and go out bare faced when it doesn't take a lot. Personally I feel girls without a little makeup end up looking average then the ones who put a bit more effort into their looks and wear some.
No matter how pretty you are naturally, makeup really enhances the face and I think most girls (and guys even) need it to liven up their face.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I've been wearing makeup since I was 13 so I'm kind of used to it (I fell, hit my face on concrete and had nasty scars everywhere so my mum bought me concealer to make me feel better).
I wear makeup almost all the time. It doesn't mean I go out looking like Jodie Marsh. I put on light mineral powder foundation to even out my skin, blusher (the foundation takes away colour), mascara as I have no eyelashes, and usually a brownish lipstick (really suits my colouring). Depending on what I'm up to I might go for eyeliner, highlighter, etc. too.
I don't think it's a 'mask'. Why not bring out my features? If I try to wear clothes that suit me and brush my hair and teeth and cut my nails to make myself present better, why not accentuate my eyes a little and cover up blemishes? It hasn't make me look older- I use mineral foundation so it actually protects my skin as well- and to be honest, when I go to the office (part-time job) if I arrived without makeup I'd look like I just rolled out of bed, it doesn't give a good impression- looks like I couldn't be bothered to groom a bit.
As for taking my makeup off, its no big deal, just a bit of cleansing lotion and I'm done.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I don't wear makeup much. None during the day usually (unless I'm having an ugly day and then I might put mascara on), mascara to go out, and if I fancy pushing the boat out I'll wear eyeliner. I also have some REALLY old foundation (~10 years at a guess) that my sister gave me that I occasionally use as concealer if I feel I need it. I actually kind of resent the fact that I look "better" putting all that crap on my face, which I guess is why I don't wear it (as well as being irritated at having to waste time putting it on, and the fact that guys don't need to think about stuff like that!). But if I go somewhere where all the girls are wearing makeup and I'm not, it makes me feel really plain and ugly. Stupid makeup
But actually OP I think you hit the nail on the head a bit with one of your own questions - you said wearing a lot of makeup often must make your natural face seem really drab in comparison, and I guess that's quite a big factor in why so many women continue to wear it.

I find it odd that you say it's no one else's business what you put on your face, but you find it "annoying" if girls don't wear makeup! I don't even really understand blusher ...
To be honest, looking my best all the time is not my priority in life.

Lol, we should both try going with/without makeup for a week. I wouldn't know where to begin, though .

I don't know if that's always the case. Obviously I don't have to worry about make-up smudging or anything, and maybe you worry more about your appearance if you spend a lot of time on it, but I check my reflection a lot, too .

I don't really see why most people would need it (unless you're a model or something.)

Yeah that is true, but its a vicious cycle. You have bad skin, so you use makeup to cover it, which in turn makes your skin worse, so you have even more need for it.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I'm SO much more relaxed about going out without make-up than I used to be. When I was about 15/16, I wouldn't even go to Tesco's without a full face of make-up. That said, although I barely wear any in the summer when I have a tan (normally just mascara and a bit of blusher and powder), in the winter I feel the need to wear a lot more. I don't wear layers and layers of the stuff, I guess I just feel really pasty without it in the winter. My boyfriend and friends say that I really don't look that much different without it on though!
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
i can't be bothered, i wake up at 5 am so i am too tired to put it on and i wouldn't wan't to do it on packed train, some people are very insecure and can't leave the house without it. but some look like serious ugly ( no offence to anyone) without it so i see why they need it. but wearing it often makes your skin age prematurley so it is better to wear it rarely, your skin can't breathe properly too.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I go through phases of wearing a lot of black smudgy eye make up that I don't take off. When I wear a lot Ifeel like Im distancing other people from my real thoughts, which they might otherwise guess when looking into my eyes.

I only find it annoying when I see pretty girls without makeup as so many people seem to think it's their business what I put on my face I can only return the favour.
That's fine if your priority in life isn't to look your best, neither is it mine. I find putting makeup on for me is no different then washing my hair in the morning or brushing my teeth. It doesn't mean just becasue I wear makeup on I only think about how I look all day, everyday. I'm not one of those girls that are constantly checking themselves in the mirror or worrying about my face or hair 24/7
