Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I suppose one of the reasons why people wear make-up is to enhance their features? Just to emphasise them. And then theres always the low self-esteem issue too.
I personally dont wear any because Im allergic to make-up. However, even if I wasnt allergic, I'd still not wear it for the same reasons as yours
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
Hmmm, good question, i dont knoww. I barely wear make up but saying that i do wear a powder everyday. Just to clear up my skin. Too much make up looks fake and plasticy. Sumtiimz on partiees and big nights i wear eyeliner, powder, mascara, eyeshadow etc but thats not too often. It can really ruin yur skin tho so i dont like the idea of having bad skin...
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I absolutely love makeup. I love reading about it, having it, playing with it, wearing it, putting it on, buying it... just LOVE it. Maybe it's because I'm a creative person who works in a fairly non-creative job, so makeup is my main creative outlet?
I wear makeup every day, unless I'm not planning to leave the house. For an everyday, workday look it takes me about 30 mins. That includes a full face - primer, foundation, concealer, highlighter, contour, eye primer, eyeshadow, mascara, brow powder, blush, & lipstick/gloss. I tend to wear very natural looks (usually soft colours) & focus mostly on making my skin look flawless, so personally I don't think it's obvious I wear so many products.
I probably own somwhere between £2-3k worth of makeup. It's basically the one thing I will splurge on, in place of other little luxuries like buying coffee, magazines, CDs, that sort of thing. Over time I've just amassed quite a lot of it! It gives me a lot of enjoyment, and I look forward to creating new looks every day
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
2 days ago i had some time in the morning so i put some black eyeliner on (i normally put white one which you cant actually see but it makes you look more awake) 10 mins later when i looked in the mirror i just didnt look right, so i took it off
maybe if i actually learnt how to put make up on I'd be better
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I used to wear loads of make-up, like I had to wear a full face of make-up wherever I went. I think part of it was a rebellion because at school we couldn’t wear it, so it was like you’d wear as much as you could get away with, then in college you were allowed so I’d just go for it. But maybe that’s just me being silly lol.
Nowadays I don’t wear so much unless I’m actually going out for a night out or whatever, but I still don’t wear as much as I used to. I used to be really orange, but I’m naturally quite tanned anyway so I just make the most of that instead of caking more orange stuff on. I do feel better with a little foundation on than I do without it though.
I can go food shopping or whatever without it though, no problem, but I’ve only really got used to that recently. Before it would be like a massively big deal for me to go out without make-up. My friends and my boyfriend say I don’t even really look that different without make-up, but I think its just a confidence thing more than anything :]

That's fine if your priority in life isn't to look your best, neither is it mine. I find putting makeup on for me is no different then washing my hair in the morning or brushing my teeth. It doesn't mean just becasue I wear makeup on I only think about how I look all day, everyday. I'm not one of those girls that are constantly checking themselves in the mirror or worrying about my face or hair 24/7
Well I'm afraid that makes you a hypocrite then. You can't complain about being judged as well as judging other people. You seem kind of mean to be honest. I only said it wasn't my priority to look my best because you seem to find it hard to understand why a girl "wouldn't want to" - makes me a bit sad that if you saw me walking down the street you'd think, "eurgh, why doesn't she wear makeup?"
I guess that I'd wear more makeup if I had more spots generally - if I have a week where my skin's looking bad I'm more likely to wear eye makeup to draw attention away from it. I wish people told me I looked the same with and without makeup - then I'd feel even better about not wearing it! Sadly people tend to tell me I look really different.

I've heard this before but never tried it. Maybe I'll have to!

Blimey, how did you learn to use all that stuff??? (Genuine interest.) My mum never taught me but I don't think she wears that much either. What does primer do? And brow powder?
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I don't understand makeup at all, really, so it's interesting to read this thread. I can count the number of times I've worn any makeup at all on one hand: a couple formal dances in high school and then the time when my cousins convinced me to let them put it on. I thought it looked so fake and unnatural; I was glad to be rid of it. I doubt I'll ever wear makeup unless I go to some dressy event and someone else does it for me. I wouldn't even know how to start, and I don't own any at all. It seems, though, like I'm the only girl I know of who doesn't wear it at least semi-frequently.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I use makeup as a way of expressing myself and my style. Plus I want to make the best of myself and everyone looks better with a bit of makeup on, idc what anyone says.

When I started I literally knew nothing (my mum hardly wears makeup either & I was the oldest growing up). It started as a combination of trial & error, then I discovered online beauty communities such as Specktra and Vogue Australia. I've learned a lot just reading other peoples' tips, participating in online discussion, and watching video tutorials on Youtube (I especially love Misschievous). Later on I took a part-time class in makeup artistry. Now it's mostly down to practicing my technique - I sometimes go to MAC technique workshops, or practice on others if I can. I've learned not to pay attentionto the tips you get in magazines, I think often the advice is too directive to be useful (i.e. "always do this", "never do that" ), and most of the time the pictures they show use completely different products. Recently I've started reading more beauty blogs & also have my own (which I don't post on very much to be honest). I find in most cases that blogs are a much better way to learn about products than more biased sources of info such as magazines, especially if you find someone who is open and honest (& not just getting freebies to promote things).
To answer your other questions, a face primer prepares the skin for foundation. It creates a smooth surface so the foundation applies evenly and doesn't adhere to, for example, any dry patches. Eye primer prepares the eye for eyeshadow - it creates a smooth, longwearing base so your eyeshadows apply true to colour (i.e. more intensely) and don't crease.
Brow powder is used to fill in and shape the eyebrows, to create a more defined arch. It's funny, for years I never saw the point, but I went to see an eyebrow specialist to have them shaped, she showed me how to use brow powder properly and now I'm hooked.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
nothing wrong with making yourself feel and look good, and enhancing your looks? make up is fine if it actually fits in with your natural face, I mean you're not two, three colours darker/lighter..like orange8-) the rest is up to the individual, everyone is different
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I feel that people with really small eyes really do suit a bit of eyeliner to open their eyes up a bit, a little mascara really does make a lot of difference and a little but of tinted moisturizer/light foundation can make a lot of difference to your complexion. However, heavy makeup can really make you look fake, when people where it everyday and are seen without it they shock people.

Writing in bold is like shouting on the internet. it makes my head hurt.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
OP you're obviously blessed with a spot and blemish free face. For me it's a bit of a catch 22 situation, but for the here and now I don't want to go out with an unmade face. Not that I wear much - just a little concealer, foundation, eyeliner and mascara.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
I wear mascara but that's it, even if I go out in the evening. Every guy i've ever been out with likes the whole 'natural' look, and if I have too much on I don't feel like me anymore. Especially lipstick, hate that.
Re: Why do some people wear make-up most of the time?
Just because it becomes the norm, I guess - you wear makeup out, but not indoors. It can't be that good for your skin though. I suppose it all depends on how much you wear and what exactly you put on. When I go out to work and stuff, I might put on a bit of eyeliner and lip balm... but that's it. On a proper night out, I'll go for a bit of foundation and blusher as well... In general, though, I'm pretty rubbish with make-up so don't really bother with it and think I look OK normally. I may look better when I know more about it, but don't see the point.
