Maths (a range of sorts) one more uni choice needed *help*
Hello,
I am currently applying for uni beginning 2010
A2 Level Grades (Predicted)
Maths either A*/A
Further maths A/B
Computing A/B
AS Level Grades
Maths A
Further Maths C
Computing B
Physics C
I have 4 of my choices done
Kings College London - Maths Bsci - AAA
Queen Mary London - Maths with Stats Bsci - 320 points
Liverpool University - Maths with education - ABB
Southampton University - Maths with Stats Bsci - AAB
(entry requirements found in prospectus)
I'm really stuck on my 5th choice, I'm thinking either City University London(300 points - its this a bit low?), Nottingham or Edinburgh. I dont know whether to go for an easier choice to ensure I meet requirements or to go for it with one of the top unis.

What's 300 points in terms of grades? And are you resitting any of your further maths modules? Because if not it would be pretty difficult to go from a C-A.
Personally I'd say that you'd need like an ABC uni as a back up incase you don't get AAA or AAB as you didn't last year.
It's up to you though obviously.

300 points in terms of grades is BBB
I'm resitting alot of modules this year and doing some extra ones too - I know i could do a lot better in further maths. So going for city university might be wise then - as a kind of fall back option ? I'd love to study in london anyways so this suits me just fine haha
thanks for the help guys

Oh that's fair enough then as that's the same amount of points as ABC so I think that would be fine as your back up then.
What about Sheffield or Lancaster? I think they're both ABB

I think you deffo need that 300 points. Especially with a C in further maths. Can I ask what happened?
Edit: Oh and they might say ABB in the prospectus but Sussex, for example, said AAB for no further maths and ABB for further. However I got an offer of AAB or A*BB so be warned!

For Maths and Further Maths last year I did 6 modules
Maths C1 - A
C2 - A
S1 - A
Further: FP1 -C - messed up in the exam
M1 -B - quite happy with that actually
M2 -E - i officially hate mechanics
i'm retaking FP1, and taking FP2, FP3, C3, C4, S2, S3, D1 and maybe D2 this year
this will allow me get my grades up above a C hopefully

That's a lot of modules, which ones are you doing in Jan? No reason really though, just wondering

On the website they say the typical offer for Bsc Mathematics is AAB-ABB (A in Maths of course). Having F.Maths does not mean a typical offer of ABB offer. I checked this weeks ago, so i don't think they just changed the offer overtime
You might of got the higher end of the offer, because your predicted grades are higher than the typical offer, but it's just my guess, and it could be a number of other reasons.

I'm sure they said on the open day the offer would be one grade lower if you have FM If that's the case about predicted grades, then that's just wrong
