Default Is there such a thing as universal beauty/ugliness?

if we say some women are 10s, is it only because society says so, or because somehow in our ingrained psychology we see some women as 10s?

it's the same reasoning with ugly people.

I don't think there is.

Society probably plays a part, yes.

Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.

Everyone is aesthetically appealling after a gallon of Lambrini.

I think it's equal - 50% ingrained into us, 50% because of society. For example, throughout history, women with large, plump lips have been seen as 'sexier' because for some reason, men saw them as more fertile and therefore a good choice of woman to breed with. And in centuries gone by, large women were seen as having the best body figure because at the time, a lot of people were starving and if a woman was fat, she was obviously not and was healthier than starving women and therefore somehow more sexy, I think it's a really intriguing subject and I'm following this to find out what everyone things.

If we can believe sociologists (with a poor grasp of statistics), there is!

Well, there is evidence of beauty being a universal principle:

definitely an interesting topic of research.
