Default medieval total war 2 installation problems

I played Rome Total war to death so bought this but when I try and play it or install it all that comes up is "conflict with Emulation Software detected". I don't even know what that means. Can someone help me please?

And please quote me so I know I've got a reply in this thread. Thanks you.

I did google it but I didn't understand the method for them fixing it. I don't really know much about computers and it was quite technical. I don't know what Daemon tools or emulation software is.

Try ringing them or referring to the games website to see what the fault is.

Could you post the link to the trouble-shooting instructions you were reading? We can try to rewrite them in easy-to-follow instructions, hopefully even for technophobes

From another forum:

It does appear to be an issue with securecom, here's a response I got from them with a solution:

Please rename your original <MEDIEVAL2.exe> (located in the folder C:/GAMES/MEDIEVAL II TOTAL WAR/MEDIEVAL2.EXE) to <MEDIEVAL2.old>. Then, click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser. This will open a blank webpage and a File Download window. From the File Download window click Open, extract the new <MEDIEVAL2.exe> into the original's folder and re-start the application.

The link for the new file is:
http://www.securom.com/support/custo.../medieval2.zip

If the problem persists, please send another analysis file of the latest executable to us.

I don't understand a word of it.

This is basically saying the problem is with the copy-protection on the cd-rom. It is supposed to stop people from stealing the game.

It offers the following solution:

1)Click the following link:
http://www.securom.com/support/custo.../medieval2.zip

2)Save the file to your desktop.

3) Right click the file. Select Extract All. The Extraction Wizard should come up. Keep Clicking next until it says the files have been sucessfully extracted.

4) Go to your desktop. Open the newly created folder called medieval2

5) Right click--> copy the file called medieval2.exe

6) Click on start-->my computer---> double click the c: drive --> double click the GAMES folder--> double click the Medieval II Total WAR folder

7)You should see a file called medieval2.exe right click it select rename. You should see a blinking text cursor in the file name. Move it to the very end of the file name (use the arrow keys) and add ".old" so it looks like (medieval2.exe.old), it's okay if it looks like medieval2old.exe. You may see a warning about renaming a file extension making a file unusuable. Don't worry about it and click yes to rename it.

8) Right click anywhere in the same folder and select paste.

9) Play the game!

Sorry, I got up to step 4, where do I copy the file to? And I can't find the games folder in the C: drive. Is it called HP_PAVILION ( C : )? If it is I can't find a games folder in there. I am really **** with computers btw.

At step five you're not copying it anywhere at the minute. You're just copying it into temporary memory for now and you'll paste it somewhere in a later step (step 8)

As for step six...for some reason the SecuROM example has been installed to a custom location - Total War games aren't installed by default to C:\Games, they're installed to C:\Program Files...so, a slight amendment to that instruction:

Click on Start > Computer > HP_PAVILION (C:) > Program Files > SEGA > Medieval II: Total War
In that folder do you see a file called Medieval2.exe? If you're still having problems, I can hunt for the installation discs myself and install it on this computer

Thanks, I got it to work.
