There was order - barbaric by our tastes, but order. Now there is disorder. It's not about cultural relativism, it's about our responsibility to those affected by our actions.(Original post by Howard)
Yes. Wasn't it awful how we enabled women to get an education in Afghanistan and held elections there etc? How much better the country was when women were beaten in the streets for not being modestly enough dressed and people were beheaded in football stadiums.
I assume we could apply for asylum in other EU countries, no? Quite different legal status to employment/residency rights isn't it? -
Says who...exactly...you.(Original post by beekeeper_)
"draconian policies"? What planet are you on?
Do you have any idea how many people die trying to illegal force their way into Britain? How many vans are unloaded of starving children? The racial hatred that they ignite?
Look, even the legal immigrants are concerned about the constant surge of illegal immigrants into this country.
Don't try telling me there is no problem. -
that is an appalling bad argument. Saying illegal immigrants ignite racial hatred as if they are a causal factor is wrong. There will always be a stimulus for it, and in the most deprived areas it is usually strongest - why? because of SOCIAL DEPRIVATION.(Original post by beekeeper_)

i said DIRE. as if the problem is so bad we have to create a 'fortress'. And these are draconian policies stricter requirements always are.Look, even the legal immigrants are concerned about the constant surge of illegal immigrants into this country.

It was suggested that if the Conservatives had not changed their immigration policy since the John Major government, then we wouldn't be able to control immigration effectively(Original post by thebucketwoman)
Yes
I suggested that the Conservatives policies on immigration in the 2005 election would have been more effective in controlling immigration. -
I suggested that if the Conservatives immigration policies in this election were implemented, it would be much more difficult for illegal immigrants to come into Britain.(Original post by thebucketwoman)
What do you mean? What difference do policies make if the party isn't in power?
I understand that they are useless if the Party is not in power, thats why the Conservatives aim to be in power! -
I understood that, your second point.(Original post by beekeeper_)

What I didn't understand was the point you made about not being able to control illegal immigration if Conservatives hadn't changed policy after John Major's government, your first point. What do you mean by that? -
not the same, i didnt say all white men are lazy :P i just know a large number in this cruddy village i live in (used to be a mining place but now closed) its pretty bad... and im like 95% sure that a lot of them are living off the welfare system(Original post by Howard)
Almost as stupid as your comment that about the "lazy white" man you mean?
-
Thanks for the personal anecdotes.......very interesting......(Original post by sarforaz)

John Majors record was being used to criticise the potential of the current Conservative policies.(Original post by thebucketwoman)

This really is not complicated. -
I would just like to add that, by definition, an immigrant is legal. The only way someone can become an immigrant is if they are granted permission to immigrate by the government of the country they're moving to before they immigrate to the new country.(Original post by beekeeper_)
WTF is an imagrant? Holy ****, the spelling gets worse on this site by the day.
Are you going to distinguish between a legal and an illegal immigrant? THAT is a huge distinction, and i can't believe so many people have commented on immigrants without even questioning this.
I can understand why people object to illegal immigrants in employment, but why do people have problems with legal immigrants in employment?
OF COURSE we would not have this problem if you had voted the Conservatives, as no more illegal immigrants would be touching the borders.
Does anyone actually believe that immigrants shouldn't be allowed to work? -
well if they're allowed to be here legally as you've said, then it would be pretty stupid to not let them work..(Original post by Bismarck)

to survive they would need benefits IF they are not allowed to work... -
What exactly do you care anyway? Solve your own problems over the pond. Last time I checked plenty of people without medical insurance and a lot of poor areas. Living conditions about 14 or 15th in the world. Considering you are the most powerful country should be a bit ashamed of the way wealth is distributed..(Original post by Howard)

Have you ever considered the possibility that America is the most powerful country in the world precisely because of the way wealth is distributed?(Original post by Alexdel)

Was wealth evenly distributed when the British Empire was the most powerful in the world?!
Why is this particular comment made towards Howard, anyway?
