Kind of have to agree.
It may be local to you? but Manchester and Birmingham have better reputations in general. (Just noticed your location...) Even York!! For the best idea go to the university website and find the Psychology department or order a prospectus, it should be free to do so.

Reputation isn't as good as Manchester/Birmingham of course. But just looking at the Times list Staffs is at 48/102 for psychology, which seems pretty reasonable. Manchester is only at 44! And Stoke isn't too bad...the campus is very central which is good, Manchester/Birmingham/Liverpool are all easy to get to by train.

It's an absolute ****-hole and the city centre is a dump. Don't go there.

I can't tell... are you lot talking about the Stoke campus? Stoke isn't that nice, but Stafford is...?
All I've heard about the university is negative and I definitely wouldn't go there.

Well in that case have a look at Birmingham or others in the Midlands or north. Order their prospectus' and compare their ratings either online or how each uni presents their course.

yeah but have you been here yourself? don't believe everything you read on the internet. surely you're old enough to know that by now...

besides good job you aren't here because we don't need attitudes like yours

Heard alot about the stoke side being negative, but Stafford campus is quite highly regarded for its FCET courses- you are 98% likely to get a grad job within 6months of leaving uni after graduation. The norm is something like 72. So that is very high, and at the end of the day, I suppose its that what matters. It is known to be one of the biggest multimedia institutions in Europe as well. The facilities are great, but I'm a Web Design student from Stafford, not a Psychology student from Stoke.

I've heard a lot of negative things about Staffordshire University and Stoke-on-Trent itself but I've been there for the Open Day on Thursday and I really liked it there. I have a good feeling about it so it's my first university choice so far. I didn't like Glamorgan. I'm going to visit UWE Bristol next.
Never go to a University without visiting it and be wary of what you read and make your own mind up.

When looking at league tables look at what is important for you, remember research income heavily skews the data. Is research a good indicator of teaching?

Psychology at Staffordshire was in the British Psychological Societies (the accrediting body) top 10 not long ago, not sure where it is now but why would it plummet?

Staffordshire is consistently within the top 25 British Universities for employment.

Sciences at Staffordshire consistently do well in the student satisfaction survey, including last weeks results.

Stoke is no worse than most urban conurbations of a similar size and is quite green with many parks and only a few miles from countryside in any direction. It is inexpensive and not prone to anti-student feeling unlike many cities.

However, read my first comment.

I'm not going to speak for Staffordshire University, but in general employers don't look so much at subject rankings or even league tables. General university reputation usually has more of an impact. The exception to this is for a very specialised course, perhaps like Games Design for example.
With over 76% of graduates gettin grad level job, it's not bad at all
