they got my application on 13th october and i heard about my interview on 29th october. But i know they said to us that we were the first batch of interviews so it might have been that they were quicker than usual when they first started. So don't worry, no news is good news etc etc!!

Hey! congrats to everyone whose been offered a place!!

I have an interview for primary PGCE at oxford brookes on 12th January, soooo nervous!!

Just wondering if anyone was had or is having an interview there can tell me whats involved in it prep wise, I've heard there's a 5 min teaching task ?? I haven't got the letter or contact from the uni through yet, only found out on GTTR this morning! any help would be sooo appreciated!! xxx

    Hey
Congrats on getting the interview Yeh there is a 5 minute teaching task where you just have to teach something to a small group of other applicants and an interviewer, a written assesment, activity in pairs and they said a maths test. tho we didn't actually do one...so maybe they have changed their mind on that!

    Hi everyone (anyone??!):woo:

I've applied for Oxford Brookes Primary PGCE and have got an interview on Thursday. I just wondered if anyone has already been through this interview day and had any tips? Or anyone who has a similar interview coming up?! I am slightly worried about the 5 minute teaching task and how thoroughly we need to know the paper we have been given?

If anyone could help me I would be eternally grateful!

    Thank you so so much!

    x:o:
I'm at brookes doing primary education, the interviews are the same for that course and the pgce though. Most people are scared about the teaching task, just relax, you do it in front of only 4 or 5 other candidates. Most people picked a hobby they do and taught a bit of that, some did some basic sciencey stuff. I taught some Ancient Greek.
The paper we had was on the necessity of talk in the classroom, yours may well be different of course. You have to know it well enough to comment on what you thought about it in some detail but you don't get heavily quizzed, just a few questions in form of a discussion with the interviewer and another candidate (if our interviews are the same of course)
Any other questions about the interview or the uni, feel free to ask!

Hey jmlm2212! thanks for the feedback, i got the paperwork through the other day with an extract on reflective teaching to read over so i'm assuming that'll be applied to the teaching task we do with no mention of maths test so maybe they have abandoned it! ...now just to decided what to do for the teaching task lol the fact it can be anything makes it so much harder to choose i think! xxx

Congratulations on getting the interview Stace, it's quite a fun day really, very relaxed. Teaching tasks were good fun, great to see what others taught. Have you had any ideas yet about what you might do? Funny how one of you has been told there will be a maths test and the other hasn't!! strange!! xx

it was the early years course. Yeah, mine was a paired interview and all the others went off in pairs as well. Yeah mine was all squased to get into five minuts but the inteviewer will just stop you anyway and I'm sure they don't mind if you have more, better to have more than less! :P yeah, I was so relieved, I hate checking my emails every five minutes and after that I didn't have to spend my christmas on UCAS! I hope you get an offer!

    Hi all,

I received a letter after seeing that gttr track had updated inviting me for an interview at Brookes for primary PGCE on 18th January.

I have also been told to expect a mental mathematics task during the day (according to the format they have set).

I am desperately trying to think of what 5 min subject to teach... have narrowed it down to a possible few ideas now.

Has anyone else got an interview on the 18th Jan?

Congrats to you who have a place, and good luck to those who like me have an interview... eek!

Don't worry about the mental maths test, when I did it last year the hardest question on there was "find 15% of 80"!!! With the 5 mins teaching don't think it has to be linked to the national curriculum - one girl in my group talked about common myths about cheerleading, one taught us how to sing, people teach a bit of ballet or languages often I think.

Hi I had an interview in October and got in for Sept 2011, I was so nervous from when I got the letter to the day of the interview but when I got there and met the other students I relaxed and wasn't nervous on the teaching task as it was only to 4 other people in a very small room in a very relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend giving out handouts and talking with instead of to the people you are teaching about something you are passionate about. Plus we didn't have to do a Maths test! Good Luck hope to see you in September!

Hey Lainey! i think it well, hard to tell really because everyone was really good! but it's so relaxed and everyone is so friendly, esp the interviewer!!

there really is no need to be nervous! there is no maths test as they told us they scrapped it, so don't worry about it at all. teaching tasks were really fun, i taught some spanish, one person taught some french, another some Korean, someone did an art activity and another about festivals!

it really doesnt matter what you teach just try make it fun and involve people, don't just stand and lecture to them for 5 mins. there were 30 ppl there on the day then split up into groups of 6, will prob be same for you, when is your interview?? they told us 2 - 3 weeks till we know if we're in, fingers crossed!!xx
