I've looked through all the accomodation and Devonshire Hall and Henry Price Building are definitely the most appealing. How many different places can you apply to?

I can't decide because I can't seem to weigh up the factors...
Devonshire Hall looks good because it seems like you'd have a really good social life there because of the bar, common room, the opportunity to join music ensembles, and the organised activities like the balls and formal dinners etc  but it is a 15 minute walk away from campus and I would rather be on campus. Also, it says kitchens in self-catering are shared between 3 to 8 residents. I want to be sharing with at least 7 other people (having been to uni before and experienced living with lots of other people I want to repeat this.) I'm worried I'll end up with 3 other people :frown: Does anyone know if you can state a preference for how many people you wanna share with? This is CRUCIAL to me as I'm really sociable!!!

With Henry Price Building it's appealing because it's actually on campus, yay . Additionally, you share kitchens with 8 or 9 other people which is perfect  Being on campus obviously you'd be really close to the union and everything going on on campus, as well as overlooking Hyde park . But you wouldn't get a common room, private bar or organised events in halls...the biggest pull is probably sharing with 8 or 9 others.

What do you think?? I really can't decide!!!!!

Hi does a standard room include a sink? or does it depend on where you go? I'm not too fussy about sharing a bathroom but I would like a sink in my own room.

Well I was looking forward to Devonshire looking at the pictures and everything. Got the real Hogwarts feel to it. Then I found out some unpleasant news such as a load of rahs are there and snobbish sort of people.

Well of course this is a generalization but those always have a seed of truth.

I personally have had some bad experiences with certain types of rahs in Dubai so this threw me off.

Henry Price is supposed to be really sociable. I have also heard that devonshire is very strict with their policies of no informal parties.

Which is kind of a downer really. However do not take me word for pure fact. I too am going this year.

Only standard rooms in Montague Burton include sinks.

Of the self-catered residences, there are sinks in the standard rooms at Bodington, Devonshire, Montague Burton, Oxley (except 6 rooms) and most of the smaller residences.

So the ones without sinks are Lupton, North Hill Court and the non-en suite rooms at James Baillie Park.

Of the catered residences, less than a quarter of standard rooms at each residence don't have a sink (apart from Charles Morris where all the standard rooms have a sink)
How is the price of the accommodation decided? For example, the price of james baillie park ensuite ranges from £4385 - £4720 per session. Which is the likely price?
Help; Accom 2010! Eng Student, not sporty, don't want to commut, socialish halls, any suggestions? and is there many undergrads in private accom?

Thank you! This is exactly what I wanted to know.
Slight change of subject but could anyone tell me about Montague Burton? I'm going self catered so want to go somewhere where lively/ easy to meet new people.
When he's asking if there's a sink in the room, he's actually asking if there is a toilet in the room

Yeah I've heard that Devonshire's full of rahs too...which completely put me off. Henry Price it is! Such a generalisation wouldn't come from nowhere!

devonshire is full of pricks, do not go there unless you are a millionaire

Most rooms are £4385 but there are some which are more (usually because they are bigger). There are one or 2 rooms that are less as well because they are smaller.
I've applied for opal 3, good or bad decision? I'm looking to party hard and be close to uni....

Hey i was wondering if anyone could help me with my decission on accomidation? haha
Ive been speaking to a couple of people and the first one really adviced Henry Price, and when i looked it said 8-9 people per room, which i really like as id like to be with a big group. They had dropped out from leeds last year (they didnt like their course) so they didnt have experience of the halls, but their sisters going leeds so hed got some info off her for me.
Anyway when speaking to the second person who goes to leeds and is in their first year atm, they said henry price sucked (his words not mine haha) because they didnt really have many social events and were also quite isolated from everyone. However he really suggested Bodington, and again when looking this up they had loads of social events and formal dinners. My sister goes Durham and they have them too, and i went to one and it was so fun and everyone got together which was really good. He also said James Baillie and Lupton were good. Also if i went to Bodington, but was catered would there be more people in the hall because i think its 5 if your self catered
Anyway so ive been looking around and really cant decide, basically im looking for something with a good social life and event, but id like quite a few people in my hall if that makes sence?
Anyone was wondering if anyone could help? Like clear up some stuff or advice would be good lol, sorry for the essay! thanks x

okay (:
so im going to leeds this year for zoology and im completely torn between Bodington and Lyddon. Im going down the catered road, so I'm limited in options, but I want to be somewhere where i'll be around people and not not stuck somewhere where like 2 people live and nothing ever happens. I know Bodington is the obvious choice if you want to be around loooads of people, but I'm not sure if the distance from the Uni is worth it. Especially if I need to go to the uni for practicals etc.
WOO
any thoughts? (:
thanks in advance!

Im in the exact same position as you! im doing zoology and thinking of Bodington, if youve chosen what did you choose in the end?

Will I be at a disadvantage if I don't apply for accommodation until a few days before the deadline? I believe Leeds do not operate a first come first serve system?
