Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 ThreadI think that if you are allocated a smoking flat, then it means all residents in that flat can smoke in their rooms with the door shutbut not in the kitchen area or other communal areas. Whereas if you are allocated a non-smoking flat then you can't smoke anywhere in the flat. So I reckon you'd be alright either way.(Original post by Morg334)
Hello beautiful people! I have a question... I completed my application for Henry Price a few weeks ago, back when I smoked quite heavily and all, and so I put down on the form that I wouldn't object to sharing with smokers or something along those lines. The thing is, I'm pretty much trying to quit now. So I was just wondering what sharing with smokers entails?
Are there like... special blocks where the smokers stay? And will wandering upon a non-smoking block lead to a few 'We don't accept your kind around here' retorts? No, I'm exaggerating. But yeah, I was wondering whether applying for smoking accommodation would really make much of a difference to enjoying the whole social aspect of the halls. If that's the case, I don't mind, but I was just wondering.
Oh, and in the case that I do regress... does smoking accommodation actually mean I can smoke in the rooms? Or is it more of a designated corner area where I can go smoke with a look of self-loathing on my face? Either way would suit me fine I guess...
Thanks for any help!
Good luck with giving up

Hey everyone!
Quick question: I have accepted accommodation in Storm Jameson, but it is written that my contract starts on the 16th of September. I reach leeds on the 13th.
The temporary accommodation is not available after 12th of September.
What do I do?
That's what I will do.
I am in Storm Jameson too

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 Thread
accommoffice, today I got an email saying that I didn't get my first choice of accommodation (Charles Morris) but I could go into Henry Price till Dec 8th, but I would have to move to Bodington Hall then (I'm an Erasmus student). Certainly, I don't like to move during the semester given the fact that my time in Leeds is limited and I want enjoy every second of it. Do you know whether this was the actual "offer" or whether this was just to let us know that we do not get our 1st choice....If so, when will we get the final offer?
I was so looking forward to live on campus, cause I had to commute to my home uni for 1,5 hours every day for the past years. so so so SO sad right now

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 ThreadDecember 8 is actually the last day of term. You then have 4 weeks off for the Xmas vacation and come back for 1 or 2 weeks of exams starting on January 8th. Some first semester only students can take their exams at their home institutions so you could possibly leave on December 8th to go home. Alternatively, as there aren't any classes going on after December 8th, it won't be too bad moving up to Bodington at that stage. Your only commute in to the university will be for the exams - the rest of the time you'll be on holiday. Have a think about it.(Original post by nala)

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 Threadhaha same here. I hate waiting(Original post by xplosives13)
hey accomoffice, do you still have a lot of accom offers to be sent? I pretty much have been abusing my refresh button and I'm still patiently waiting
But I guess or at least hope we'll get a message very soon.

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 Thread
If you havn't recieved an offer yet and hold an unconditional, i'm assuming you was made unconditional fairly late; and will not be sent your offers until the second batch. Most likely because if they allocated accommodation to you now, as it's so late it'll be very likely that you will not be allocated your first choice if it's a fairly high demand choice

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 ThreadYou're right - although we do have a very small number of people with dietary requirements and mature students still to send out as well as a slightly larger number of first semester only exchange students.(Original post by jason1234)

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 ThreadYou stand almost as much chance of getting your first choice as other students, although we have bunched you together in flats. But there are first semester students allocated to all residences.(Original post by Unfold)
I guess it is because I'm an exchange student staying for only one semester so I doubt I'll get my first choice anyway. Waiting is so annoying
I'm sorry you've had to wait - there's a couple of residences with areas where you can't move in until the weekend of 15/16th so we need to be sure we're not putting international students in those areas as most of you will arrive earlier. And we're waiting for confirmation for the residences as to exactly where those areas are. We should be able to send everything out by Tuesday. -

. I do understand that it takes a bit longer especially seeing that you try to put us together and everything.

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 ThreadSadly I just realised that I am a mature student - but age is simply just a number. Would mature students get their offers this week? Or would we have to wait till the second batch? I am also international and unconditional - no dietary requirements. I was also wondering about the contents insurance included in the rent, does it cover theft solely within your room or does it extend to theft on the mean streets of Leeds, say you get jacked for your Galaxy S3 walking home from class - would the contents insurance cover you to get a new one? What exactly does it cover? Thanks, bye.(Original post by accomoffice)

Re: Leeds Accommodation 2012 ThreadYes, yours should come through by Tuesday as well. Again, it's because we don't allocate you automatically because we try to bunch you together.(Original post by star_gaze)

This will explain what the insurance covers: http://accommodation.leeds.ac.uk/dow...nsurance_cover
- it's last years (I think but haven't checked) but the terms of the cover won't change substantially.
And our streets aren't mean
. Well, no meaner than other cities in the western world anyway.
