for an art foundation course you apply straight to the college or uni offering it, its not through ucas. you can also apply AS WELL AS ucas.
so, send in ur ucas for architecture, and look into the foundation courses. the deadline for that is quite a bit later than ucas, i want to say march but dont take my word for it. then ur keeping ur options open and uve got time to decide.
bear in mind you dont get funding for a foundation year, and most places charge fees and you have to buy your own materials.
believe me, i really really wish id applied for a foundation year as well as my course im doing now, i just decided it in a hurry and by the time i realised i wanted to do art it was past the deadline. so keep ur options open!!

Most people who go on to do a graphic design degree will have done a foundation - the best unis will expect it. You can still try and get onto these courses without one but then practically everyone on the course will have done one. The foundation year is really a year to experiment and I don't actually think I've come over a person who hasn't thought it has helped them.

Some unis have a year 0/1 foundation 4 year type program - mainly in scotland. Edinburgh College of Art, Glasgow School of Art, etc. This is where you do a interdisciplinary first year and then go onto your specialism for the rest of your degree (graphic design, fine art, textiles, etc) although I remember Edinburgh saying that next year your first year will be more tailored to your specialism.

Salford also do a 4 year course with the foundation year included and I'm sure other unis do to.
