Oh right, so you took 14 subjects - achieving 5 A's ..... Hmm let me see so to be classed as gifted in Germany you only need 35% top level marks, well I would be classed as a genius, you know achieving a 83% A ratio! 10 out of the 12 gcse's took - A's

Your stories don't even match up -

So your 25, you attended a boarding school to do A-Levels
Attended Bradford College completing 2 certificates in one year
Achieved a 2:1 at Uni
2 years working at a hostel 60 hours per week
Made sergeant in the army, that means you achieved rank 6 times, an average of 7 years

Hold on - Bernard called, he asked if he could have his watch back - You know the one which lets you stop time. Either that, or you started your journey at the ripe old age of 10.

Listen stop with your utter rubbish - I don't even know you and I can tell you try to act inferior to people - comments like 'don't cry to me when you end up on a council estate' show this... Your a nobody who makes up things to make yourself feel better when your sat in on your own on a Friday night beating it over babestation.

Well done on the Volleyball - did you achieve all that whilst you where trawling round trenches giving your troops orders, at the same time serving soup to the homeless and juggling 8 balls in one hand - I wish I had your talents!

Oh and your superior intelligence has led to you doing your Masters at the 44th best university in the UK in the 'History' field - 44th - wow that higher education served you well didn't it! A 2:1 from someone with an IQ like yours - thats quite good... oh wait its not a first though!

Have fun in that relationship, Pammy and her 5 friends are very lucky!:woo: :yep: :woo:

Right so let's see if we can get the utter rubbish you're talking in a somewhat more realistic zone.

Firstly to be classed as gifted you do not need to achieve 35% A's you need to submit yourself to a 3 day assessment centre in which you will have to pass an IQ test, several assessments concerning your teamworking skills, skills in leading a group, critical thinking, debating and your ability to use aquired knowledge in a variety of unknown problems. It has nothing to do with your grades at all. You could attend if you had C's and D's the outcome is what matters as most surveys will tell you that a lot of highly intelligent people actually have problems at school concentrating or get bored thus only doing what is necessary to pass. At the end all the results get reviewed case by case by a board of teachers from the school as well as two officials of the Ministry of Education (since Germany is a federal rebublic responsibility for education lies with each state)

Secondly you can not compare GCSE's to German A-Levels... that is a bit like comparing a cereal bowl to a sauce pan. The GCSE's you do is roughly the level of the exam the guys at middle-school in Germany take as their final exam. They are 16/17 and that is basically the second best schoolform in Germany. It's Grammar School, Middle School, Main School. So you can hopefully guess what 83% A's in GCSE mean to me... not much since a lot of my friends who attended Middle School actually graduated with 100% A's because they just worked their arses of to qualify for a good job training afterwards. Yes I took 14 subjects. I had 3 exams for the main courses and Math's. What you might not realise is that the German system works differently. We do not take exams and than get that grade... we actually have to work 2 years straight and pass exams for all the subject throughout these 2 years. Normally two a year for each subject making it 4 per subject in the two years getting it up to 56 exams. I grant you that not all of them are 3 or 4 hours like the ones for the main courses at the end but all of them are two hours in length. On top of that you also submit course work: presentations, tests, essays etc. All that get's than counted together every semester giving you an average grade for any given subject. At the end of the 2 years all the semesters of your subjects get counted together, the semesters for the main courses count twice as do all the exams at the end (3 written and 1 oral) this than gives you a number of points (since in Germany you get points from 0 to 15 instead of grade up to A. 15 being A+ 13 A- and so on) these points added up will than (through use of a table) give you your average grade which is the grade you get in the end. This is what I did and I will not try to get you to understand that the coursework expected at my school was a bit harsher than at other, normal schools, because we were classesd as gifted, simply because you won't believe me anyway.

Thirdly: You can check my records at Bradford College or I can simply upload my results for the two certificates. From September 2006 until roughly July 2007 (although I was still enrolled at Bradford College until September) I attended an FCE (First Certificate in English) Class. I sat my exam in June completing it with an A, since the University of Huddersfield would only accept me if I would also aquire the CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) I sat the exam for the latter in July. Both exams consisted of 4 parts: Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and English in Use (grammar). I got my CAE with an A as well. I did this during my first year in England. I arrived in Bradford in September 2006 to work one year as a volunteer a Aldo House, the, than, only hisgh support hostel in Yorkshire. The volunteering was under the supervision of the EU who also paid for it. Aldo House is part of the Depaul Trust. They're online so check it out if you don't believe me, call them do whatever you please. I worked there for a year between 40 and 60 hours a week depending on whether I had to a sleepover or not and whether I had to work in Leeds or not. Our clients were homeless young people between 15 and 25 of which we had 8 (7 rooms 1 resettlement flat). As volunteers we (my french flatmate Matthieu and my french flatmate Severine) helped them with their shopping, budgetting, personal hygiene, took care of the banking for them and the hostel etc. I never said I worked at the hostel for two years. I worked there one full year from September 2006 until September 2007, I worked in Leeds for nearly 3 years. I started in Leeds in March 2007 working for St Luke's Cares in Beeston, South Leeds. I worked there first as a Volunteer from March until about June 2007, was than offered a place as regular staff member in the Urban Bar next to St Luke's Church in Beeston which is a youth club for kids from 8 to 18. I worked at the Urban Bar until September 2007 whilst I was also working for The Depaul Trust in Bradford. After that I got offered a spot as driver and worker for the so called Mobile Youth Provision which was basically a youth club on wheels serving 10 areas in South Leeds for 2 hours a week each, I did that to support myself whilst at Uni for 3 days a week and 8-9 hours each for the first 2 years of Uni until I had to stop because we lost a lot of funding which meant hours being cut to such a level that I would spent nearly half my money on trains and buses to get there. After I had finished volunteering I started studying in Huddersfield (yeah I know how could a genius choose Hudds right?) I had offers from Leeds Met, Lets Uni, Trinity and All Saints and Sheffield although Sheffield was just so I would have a place secure somewhere. Originally I wanted to take Leeds' offer just because that would have made it easier for me to continue working for St Luke's. After an Interview at Huddersfield I decided for Huddersfield just because I felt the contact and level of support with and in Huddersfield would be better for a foreign student. I graduated after 3 years in 2010 with a 2:1 in my course BA (Hons) English Literature and History.

Let's go to the army than. I did my National Service (Don't know if you know that we still have that) in October 2004 (having finished school in July 2004 and no I didnt have to repeat any year I just started school at 7 not 6 or 5). Well actually I tried to but got injured quite badly in the first week (tore the ligament on my right ankle). I was discharged 3 weeks later but know I would have to continue eventually and that I might get drawn from University so I insisted to be called back imidiately after the doctors at the army would confirm that I was healthy enough. So I was called in again in April 2005 did my 3 months of basic training with the signals troop in Leipzig and was promoted to Private Second Class 29th May (having served already nearly a month before). Finished basic training end of June and was sent to one of the last hunter units in Germany (basically the green barets) which was responsible for the security of the division headquarter. Got promoted to Private First class 29th August 2005 and got my truck drivers license there as well, took part in Compact Eagle which was a EU manoevre with French, Dutch, Danish, British and Polish troops and was discharged Beginning of Decembre 2005. Everybody remains in the reserve though so upon discharge I was promoted to Corporal. I have since been back 3 times and normally every time you come back, given that there is a year in between, you will be promoted within your rank limitations (I couldn't become Sergeant without the proper asessment and training). I than decided to take that training whilst back and got promoted to Sergeant. I never led men into combat and I never said that either. Upon completion of my degree I will have the possibility to train to become an officer as a completed undergraduate course is the requirement for that in the German army.

Like I said I achieved the finals whilst at boarding school the first finals were in 2003 the second in 2004 which was my last year at school. If you want to check google this is an event called "Jugend trainiert für Olympia" or "Youth trains for the Olympic games". Every School in the country takes part in whatever sport they can actually send a team: football, tennis, rugby, athletics, basketball, volleyball, hockey etc. You first compete on a city level, the next stage is the district level and after that you'll make it to the state final. Win that and you'll go to the Countrywide final competing against the state champions of all 16 German states.

So basically you're wrong. My CV adds up:
2001 until 2004 at boarding school doing my A-levels and achieving the finals in Volleyball
October 2004 until December 2005 National service and injury
December 2005 until September 2006 I worked in various jobs ranging from security for the World Cup 2006 in Leipzig, Berlin and Munich (still have my shirt if you want to see it) to working for a youth travel agency in Spain (Calella next to Lloret de Mar) and the south of France (Canet du Plage) for 2 months (RUF Jugendreisen e.V. is the companies name in case you want to check out if it's existing or not). I also went back to the Army during that time since I needed the money.
Sept. 2006 until Sept. 2007 EVS (European Volunteer Services --> http://europa.eu/youth/volunteering_-_exchanges/european_voluntary_service/index_eu_en.html) in Aldo House in Bradford for the Depaul Trust 40 hours or more a week working with homeless youngsters and did my Certificates at Bradford College.
March 2007 until September 2009 work for St Luke's Cares in South Leeds
September 2007 until July 2010 BA(Hons) English Literature and History, graduated with a 2:1
Since 2010 Cardiff Uni MA History Crusades Route

So that would be that... now to the very nice things you said about my grade and my new University.

Concerning the 2:1 I might have done better, that's true, but I'm still pretty pleased. I studied a subject that rarely any foreign people study in England and I studied the language that you speak since you can talk. It's not my first language and I have never been to Uni before and have been out of education for 3 years before starting the course. To be honest for a foreigner that had to learn your language from when he was 13 and still is not even as close as you are on a good day and academic writing etc. from scratch I'm quite pleased about the mark.

Cardiff might be ranked 44th but what does that say? Huddersfield is ranked lower yet it has a research that is of extremely high quality and such is the staff. 80-90% of the research of Cardiff's historians is ranked world class and it has a specialised route for the crusaded and one of England's most established experts on in field. What more do I need? I had offers from Durham, York, Southhampton, Swansea and Bangor. Yeah York and Durham are ace but they don't give a **** about you because they know if you don't come than another one will take your place. To you that might be foolish or dumb but for me, living away from my family, friends and people I like and now even more so since my friends from Uni are spread all over Britain, it is vital as I want to feel wanted as a student or rather aspiring academic and I want an atmosphere that makes me feel welcome. I had that in Cardiff, the support is and was there, the contact was personal from the beginning and they always gave me the feeling that they wanted me and not simply because of a 2:1 but because of my course work. So it was a simple choice really.

I don't really get why your agressive like that but I'm not gonna turn around and let you **** me here. I have worked hard for everything I have so far and I think my CV is pretty much better than what most 25 year olds have to offer so don't think for one moment I'm just gonna read your ***** about me and say nothing. I will not honour your stupidity concerning my sexual life with any serious comment because there is a nice saying in Germany "Was ich selber denk und tu das trau ich auch den Anderen zu." I think that pretty much sums up who and what you are.

Have a nice day

It seems like this thread has gone off track a bit so here goes:

I'm a 3rd year student at Hudds who's also on placement at the Uni too. I'm studying BA (Hons) Computing In Business and my 1st and 2nd years were spent at Storthes and I spent a fair amount of time in my friends flates in Aspley & Snow Island.

I would recommend Storthes for 1st year students purely for the socialising and that's not necessarily all the drinking & sex, but for the atmosphere. Unless you put down on your application form that you want to move in with people you know, you will be put together with a variety of people from all of the country doing a variety of courses so it's a very easy way of making friends you wouldn't normally outside of your school. I've got friends in hospitality, graphics design, architecture, engineering, media, journalism, music, law, drama and more and all because I lived with people I didn't know. I wouldn't know these people if it weren't for living at Storthes.

Yes, I do agree that the kitchens & bedrooms could do with an overhaul as they've been in there for at least 10+ years. The beds squeak alarmingly when you move and the wet-room style shower does tend to flood the entire room lol. But I enjoyed it all. I didn't expect a designer kitchen or the latest appliances, since afterall you are in STUDENT accommodation. If you've got a problem, report it to the reception ASAP!! They will change light bulbs for nothing, give you replacement mattresses for nothing!! Summer is the best time at Storthes, with everybody sitting outside enjoying what sun Huddersfield actually gets!! with BBQs going and just enjoying it. But when its winter its not bad either, some monster snowball fights between the blocks when it snows and a couple of days of not going to Uni when the bus can't get up the hill (The road is usually gritted since the bus service is still a public one and not a special contract hire bus)

Although saying that I made a mistake staying at Storthes a 2nd year, purely because I was too lazy to look for any other accommodation. I would recommend you DO NOT stay there for your 2nd year, move closer to town with mates in a house or in Aspley, Snow Island, Firth Point etc. Yes the buses were a bit of a pain and so we're the taxis but I didn't mind it in my 1st year, in 2nd year it was just annoying.

If you do plan on staying at Storthes (which I recommend for your 1st year!!) each block has its own little quirks but if you want a bit of piece and quiet whilst your there put down that you want to move into either 'Highgreen' or 'Anchor' which are the 2nd year blocks which tend to be quieter since everyone is studying, plus you get a bonus of a dishwasher (definitely vital!!) and a living room with a TV.

When it comes to your 2nd year accommodation, grab a load of mates together and start looking for houses/flats in November of your first year with the aim of signing the contract by Jan, otherwise all the good ones will be gone!!

If none of that is for you, then the easiest option is to move into Aspley, Snow Island or Firth Point which in my opinion are good for 2nd+years at Uni. The rooms are much smaller than those at Storthes and the walls are REALLY thin, its only plasterboard compared to Storthes which has concrete walls. When I've slept over at a mates, its quite easy to hear conversations happening in different flats, the TV in someone else's room or even people having sex!!!!. The bedrooms and kitchens in Aspley are just as basic as those at Storthes, so don't pick a place based on the quality of the furniture since all Opal & Unite student accommodation around the country is exactly the same!! The only bonus to Aspley, Firth Point and Snow Island is that it's smack bang next to the University & town.

If you want to know more, just PM me on here.
hi , i have a room for a room for rent in little aspley hall with an ensuite, it is room GO1B. also there is a parking space available in little aspley hall , contact little aspley hall or myself if interested [email protected]
I live at Little Aspley hall. And I hate it!!!
Our furniture is broken and was broken when we got here and opal have done nothing about it. All the walls were marked, curtains have got stains on them. And we have hardley spoken to anyone in our block. Ive booked to stay at Snow Island next year with a group of friends I went to school with coz Im being bullied by one of my flatmates atm and once again opal are doing nothing about it.
So dont go with Opal.
