What percentage of 18 year olds would you expect are virgins?

Obviously, it's quite a hard thing to guage as very few people would ever admit to being a virgin.

Of things I've read online, and a few people I've asked, the generally estimation seems to be around 30%.

But 70% of 18 year old having had sex seems a little high to me. The way a lot of 18 year old males carry on I'd expect that 50% of them have never seen a tit outside porn.

Isn't it true that 1/3 of the population have lost their virginity at age 16? So maybe more than half have by 18? I think 30% virgins would be a fair guess since a lot of people lie and a lot are still virgins into their 20s. 30% is still quite a large number if you consider the whole of the population of 18 year olds in the UK.
Meh, sounds about right. Freshers week can account for about 10% of that 18 year old cherry popping.
The problem with statistics is the method used for obtaining them. Let's say for instance that it is accepted that 50% of 16 year-olds are virgins/non-virgins. How was this statistic obtained; by guesswork, by watching people as they lost their virginity, or by asking the people in question whether they had or hadn't lost their virginity? Only the second method would provide reliable statistics and I think we can all agree that that is the least likely. In the last case, many people will lie, and in the first case, you cannot possibly make an educated guess. Therefore, I suspect there are slightly more virgins in each age group than you would expect. You can be sure if you asked a collection of 21 year-olds whether they were virgins, you would find nobody who would say yes, irrespective of the truth. Seeing as there is no other way to obtain the truth, you would have unreliable data. Which is where the social stigma of being a virgin comes into it all and directly skews any sort of statistics. Not that anyone really ought to be interested in who is and isn't a virgin anyway seeing as virgin is only a word.

I'd guess about half, though of course the answer would differ depending on where you asked it. If you went to a council estate the percentage would be approaching 100, if you went to a girls boarding school then the answer would be far less, (if we're not including lesbian stuff).

We will never know for sure. People may not talk about stuff like that due to shyness or boast they are at it like rabbits, when really they haven't.

You just can't take peoples word for it as it may not be true.
40% or so.

95% of girls lose their virginity to chuck norris. The remaining 5% are fat and ugly.

Don't you mean the other way around?? (I doubt 100% of people on an average council estates are virgins).

Who the hell cares?
virgins !!!
Ummm.... maybe about 45%? If someone is having sex at 18, they're going to do it more than once and that may distort others' views of what they think is the true figure (if that makes sense).

Just because TSR is weird, it doesn't mean that the rest of the normal population is.

LoL, yes, I meant the other way round.

I would have thought about 30-40% to still be virgins. Hard to judge on such a personal matter though.

The vast majority of my friends had lost it by the time they hit 18(Most around 15/16) , so i would guess around 30% to be Virgins.
