Imperial Business School vs. Cass Business School

Poll

Which one has a better reputation for MSc Finance?

Hi guys,

I just received an offer for the MSc Finance at Imperial Business School. I was really excited, because in the rankings Imperial is always in the top 5 in UK (sometimes even before LSE). The problem is - Imperial is really a great technical university.. so, do you thing that the Business School is great, too?
How would you compare it to Cass Business School? (I am still not sure, if I should apply for the MSc Finance at Cass..)

And because it is always very subjective to decide which school is better, I should say that the most important thing for me is the reputation of the school among the recruiters (in my case - investment banks)

Thank you in advance!

what job are you planning to do?
corporate finance or markets? if markets, which role - trader, research, sales?
I think internationally Imperial has the better reputation, but within the UK CASS is widely aknowledged as a top business school. Imperial is indeed technical, and it tends to have the more quantitative content.

stu_m_l >> market, may be trading, but still not 100% sure
I have heard of some "trading benefits" at CASS: does one get a SII and CISI award/degree and what does this actually mean?

but the most important thing for me is the reputation among the investment banks and the probability to get an interview (all other things such as grades and prior experience being equal).

Thank you in advance!

Imperial is more an acadamic place and the reputation is good. Cass is also nice but the standard of selection for entry of Cass is quite low ...Maybe just because they have lots of places in each courses. That's a paradox...And every year there will be far more cass graduates than ICB graduates in business related degree.

hey guys
i'm having trouble deciding between the two for the msc in mangement. The course content I suppose is what's important now, as both have great reputations. Does anyone know exactly how quantitative the imperial course actually is compared to the cass msc in management?

HI,
I am in the same situation.
I got an offer from Cass for the MSc in Investment Management and an offer from Imperial for the MSc in Risk Management.
I truly don't know what is the best choice. As far as I know Imperial has a better reputation and the program will definitely more mathematical. But then on the other hand, the MSc in Investment Management sounds really promising. Especially, the elective courses as behavioural finance, Islamic Finance and technical analysis and trading systems.

I guess in the end, it is a matter of personal taste.

What would you guys think?

Well guess the two courses (Risk management and Investment management) are not exactly the same. I think the best advice is to check the courses in the syllabus for both and decide what you want to study. I really enjoy risk management but I chose Investment management mostly because in Cass you can take up to five electives in the last term instead of a dissertation which gives me the flexibility to choose risk management courses. I think risk management on its own is too specialised and this may bear some restrictions later on in your job.

Not only that. They have a dozen of finance courses. Far too many in my opinion.

I'd choose Imperial just for the name...and I feel it's more of a targeted university for trading.
