Re: 16-19 Bursary/EMA Questions ThreadI do know of people from low income households who went to university about ten years ago without any debts. They certainly didnt pay this so presumably universities or the government did.(Original post by Quady)

bTW im dont think the system we will be under is too bad. However if i was a year older i would have been payed alot more at college and also would have been basically payed to go university. But all in all its not too bad.

Re: 16-19 Bursary/EMA Questions ThreadI think it's when exams are over, which means I'll only be getting one more £20 payment.(Original post by zacarea)
When do ema payments stop?? is it after exams are over, or is once schools close at the end of june?
Since you won't be going into college anymore there's no need for you to get EMA. -

Do you live in Wales or Scotland? -
When I rang my college they said 6th of July so my last payment will have been yesterday. I'm confused though because we filled in some forms (those who got £20) and apparently we were supposed to have been getting more money. However I haven't received anything yet

Is EMA useless for everyone else as it is for me?
Im at Tech and we had 2 teachers off during the year few months at a time with subsitutes battled everyday to get sorted some weeks i did some I didnt, was meant to get bonus last week returning teacher said she would put it through but didnt, do you think its still possible to get the EMA bonus as Tech is still open you see.
anyone else think EMA is a waste of time and they should do a different scheme? -
Re: Is EMA useless for everyone else as it is for me?
Its not a right to have EMA. You arent entitiled to it. Its a privilege. If youve managed to get a single penny. Its a single penny you didnt have before and therefore proves its not a waste of time.
Any scheme is only as good as the people whom are organising it. -

16-19 Bursary
[Sorry if this is in the wrong place]
Hi Guys,
I am currently in my second year of A levels and I am choosing to drop out for various different reasons.
At the beggining of my first year of A levels my computer broke and I couldn't afford a new one (my college course needed me to be able to do coursework and submit it electronically), so I asked my college and they agreed for a one off payment using the 16-19 bursary to get me a laptop.
My question is, when I do drop out of college will I have to return the laptop or do I own it? Because as far as me and my dad are aware, anything given to a student using this bursary belongs to the student. But my college told me that at the end of my course, everything would have to be returned once the courses finished.
Hope this is clear enough!
