Music that concentrates on social issues, u know politics, religion, education, culture, economics etc like in America they have artists like Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Mos Def etc I’m looking for the UK equivalent.

Giggs is hard though but naa he’s on too much hype haha JHEEZE!!
Ah I see well I dont really listen to UK hip hop, Giggs is the only artist I like and thats because he quite similar to jeezy and other american artists rather than his british peers if you get what I mean

I like Immortal Technique. Tupac was also a pretty good rapper in that department.

The socially aware rappers and I know they're out there, are usually with independent labels and sorts like that so to obtain their stuff and to hear it may be harder then let's say, Chipmunk's stuff. All those big record companies don't want their starts focusing on what's REALLY going on. But they're out there... they are but you have to find them.
Dizzee Rascal is the only one left, the rest have been shot or stabbed.
HumorousGent.

Dizzee Rascal is the complete opposite nowadays, most of his older stuff is better.
I was gonna say something like Klash but he's already been mentioned.

Thats SOO TRUE!! Dizzee is main stream and it's a shame all his popular lyrics are about partying and having money :shifty: nothing wrong with doing that once in a while but not everytime..

Agreed, thankfully his underground stuff makes him half-decent.

LOL!! It's funny how Chipmuk and Immortal Technique are mentioned in the same thread
There aren't that many tbh. Most o them tend to be too righteous and self indulgent and unlike people like Lowkey and all his middle class ans would like to think they dont relate to people living in the hood as much as someone like Giggs or P Money would. There are rappers that have socially conscious songs or aspects like Kano, Devlin and Wretch 32 but their not all about being concious like Immortal Technique is.

No, listen to some Grime instrumentals and compare them to a HH instrumental.

You'll recognise the difference.

Don't listen to UK HH much, Sway and Giggs are the only acts really. Wretch 32 is Hip-Hop too mostly these days too!
I'm going to look like a right numpty when I say this in a thread filled with real rap artists, but....

What about Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip? I know they're really quite 'pop' and don't fit the traditional rapping stereotype about how hard it is to survive here; it's two white blokes from Essex throwing out poetry. Still, it's socially conscious at times; Thou Shalt Not Kill was quite self-aware; Letter from God to Man is probably the one track I've totally forgotten about these last few years, but, it's probably amongst the best pieces of blunt religious poetry to hit the music biz...ever?

Where they went though? No clue. They were at my Uni last year, DJ'ing, but I've not heard anything new by them.
