Hello !
I'm a French student coming next year to study law (3rd year) at Leicester University. I really don't know which accomodation should I choose... I havn't seen the uni yet.
I think I want to be self catered, but then which Hall should I choose ! I understand than John Foster is the only Hall with personal showers (?)
Could anyone help me? which one is the best to meet people?
Thanks

It depends if you want to live very close to the university or not. Oadby is the name of the village where most of the accommodation is based, but there is also some accommodation about a 5 minute walk from uni.

John Foster isn't the only accommodation with en-suite bathrooms (your own shower), you can also go en-suite at GMS in a place called Bowder Court, and it's self-catered too. Mary Gee houses are about 25 minutes walk from university and a lot of international students live there, they're all self-catered but I don't know if they're en-suite or not. And you meet people in all halls of residence! If you want to meet other international students, then Opal Court which is near uni, and Mary Gee are good places to go for.
Hey everyone I will moving into opal court this october for the year 2010/2011. I will be Block A Flr 2 Flat 6 Stndrd Rm E and was wondering if anyone was going to be near me. Cheers x

Thanks for your answer. Are there more freshmen in Oadby ? What's the difference between an ensuite room in Oadby and a room outside the village like in Opal Court ?
More photos please? I would LOVE to live in one of the houses! They look so nice! What about the social side of these though? Anyone know the chances of getting self catered? I know that it's limited and often it's more sociable to go catered but I prefer to cook for myself, I just find it easier being a vegetarian and all. :p:

Also, I went to visit in October (and loved it!) but I'm still confused - what is the hall on the other side of the road from John Foster? As in, you walk down a little road for about say 50 - 100 yards and there are two or three buildings set back? They had limited car parking there too. It's been bugging me, are they Beaumont?? And where exactly is Digby?

This is a website containing a bit of information on the accommodation halls . It also has a few photographs.

when do they give out offers for accomodation? is it first come first served, or is there some kind of deadline date or something?

:yep: no benefit to doing it now... in fact the opposite may be true, from what I hear several of the UoL websites are being overhauled in late march or april.

You mentioned the houses. This is The Beeches where I live and am living again next year!!

I absolutely adore it. I'm currently a 2nd year so live mostly with freshers but it has been fantastic. The social side is great too- we all get on really well, go out to the pub together, we also have a room with a table in upstairs were sometimes we all do our work together, random banter aplenty....so yeah, the social side is great.

As for the hall you were describing. I think, from your description it must be Beaumont where I lived in my 1st year. I had a great time there (it is mostly catered, though- but there are vegetarian options) although I prefer this year as the people in my block at Beaumont got on my nerves quite a bit (we were just very different).

EDIT: Sorry, I can't seem to get the photo up. There are others of The Beeches floating around here though- I think Tomber has posted some.

Im thinking of applying for beaumont, then gms, then jf. But I want self catered and most of beaumont is catered and I know that loads of first years socialise and make friends and that when getting meals so would I miss out on too much being in this position? Obviously there will be others like me and its mostly up to me but still. Also what are the different halls like in general?
