I got my insurance for £648.
It's 3rd party, fire and theft.
Through Bell which is part of the admiral group.
Had to spend agessss looking though. It started off near £900/£1000

I actually just found some information that would of saved me hundreds... I was not aware you could pay for your insurance monthly as a learning! Seeing as I didn't drive for 2/3 months at a time due to exams, knowing this back then would of saved me a tonne

If you don't believe me you can read it for your self here

    http://begin-driving-lessons.co.uk/l...-insurance.htm

Actually that website has quite a bit of decent information on for learners. Worth a browse at least.

but they can't prove it, unless they hide secret camera's in the front of the car
    Secret cameras? No.

Reviewing CCTV, checking items in the car to see who it really belongs to? Yes.

If you front, you're a royal dick and need to man up and take the real cost of driving a car.

i highly doubt insurance companies have enough time to review all cctv cameras to proove you own the car.

When it comes to having to pay out thousands and thousands of pounds when they shouldn't have to, they do.

Got place of work or education? Guarantee they'll start checking CCTV around those areas at rush hour.

My insurance company sent me a renewal quote for this year and they've put my insurance up by £500 compared to what I paid last year! And that's a years no claims with them. Have switched to Aviva which is cheaper than what I pay atm I'd recommend checking them as I don't think they're on price comparison sites etc so you have to do the quote via their website.

The best quote I have had back from an insurer is £4,831.00 from Bradford and Bingley. I have tried direct line but they wont give me a quote probally because of my age. Any other companies I could try? Im trying to insurer a 1.3 KA or a 1 Litre Corsa. Some person I know is 17 and he had his insurance for £1000 on a fiat punto but mine comes back at £5000 for a fiat punto. Cars are worth about £2000

    Good post, plenty of information.
    But this:

    For new drivers........

    ...
    Data that Insurers ask for:

Your home Address - live in a decent postal area, if not move to a decent area.
may well be true. However, you're hardly going to move house at 17 to lower your insurance premium

    Gawd dammit!

I'm 18, looking around getting quotes for my second year, and I'm being quoted £1,700 and upwards. :unimpressed:

My first year was with Quinn and they quoted me more than the first year!

    Any recommendations would be great!

    I've got a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 Vegas.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Have a look at Aviva. I got insured for my second year at £800 but then again I'm 21 and a girl with a new car but it could be worth a try!

Thanks Belle! I'll add them to the list, although I think we may have already tried them. Another check wouldn't hurt

How much attention to insurers pay to your home address? I'm away at uni in Leeds, and there's a lot of thefts in this neighbourhood - meaning the quote I have is for £2400ish. However, the same one for my parents' address is £1100!! Bearing in mind all my bank details and driving licence are still registered at this address - is it easy to get away with?

Yeah because your car will be at a much higher risk of theft etc in Leeds. My quotes are a lot cheaper than some of my friends because of my postcode too.

    Is this a fair quote?

£1450 for 18 year old male, driving a 1.2 1993 vauxhall corsa, fully comprehensive, £500 excess, not had insurance before so no NCB.

I think it's ok, but I'm worried that I'm being conned or something lol.

Where is that from? That's a very good quote for the price and I'd be happy to pay that next year.

I'd say yes to that. I'm paying £2.2k at the moment and I'm hoping with 1y NCB it at least drops a smidgen for me, plus the fact I'm now 18.
