Obviously this isn't for everyone but my parents have just brought me a car and have insured it on the multi-car thing with admiral and my insurance worked out just over £500 and that includes breakdown cover

    www.moneysupermarket.com

Go on that and input details and it will do all the work for you, comparing all insurance companies.

I don't think 'bargain' is quite the right word when you're spending £4k on a piece of paper.

OP, Elephant was cheapest for me by a mile (19 yo, 0 NCB, passed 2 years). May be worth giving them a try.

Black Box Insurance my only option? £1260 from CO-OP Will Pay £50 to find a better!
Hi guys I was wondering if Co-OP is my only insurance option to get insured. I don't really want to get insured on a black box, I want a normal insurance that doesn't watch how you drive every ******** minute of the day.

If someone can find me a quote in the similar price range, I'll give them £50. Will have to be in form of a bank transfer or online gift card as I don't have a Paypal account.

Key facts. - I'm 18, DOB, 19/12/93 - Passed on the 24/07/2012/ I will be the main driver, driving maximum 1000 miles for the year.

    Post Code B90 1UB 59 Main Street

Brother will be an additional driver, he'll be driving 10 - 12k miles per year, he has held his licence for over 12 years. His DOB is 4/9/1981

    No Late Driving,

Cars to put in on the quote, Corsa, Fiat Punto.. etc... maximum 1.2 L

18, from Solihull, held licence for less than a month, as main driver... good luck with that one :lolwut:

I'm 22, passed last month, it's costing me £1900 to insure a 1.1 Clio with Co-op - the next cheapest quote I had was £2600 TPFT - and believe me, I shopped around, haggled, pleaded, the lot. You can get a cheaper deal by getting a classic car, but it's a bit hit and miss and there's the practical problems of running an older car.

Just go with the Co-op, don't drive like a spanner for a year, then get a proper insurance policy.

No offence if you're driving for only 1000 miles a year, you may aswell take the bus.

Can I ask why you'd be the main driver if your brother plans to do 10-12x as much driving as you? That would also likely bring the cost down because he's been driving for so long and will likely have no claims...

Maybe OP wants to get his own no claims? Still, would be a lot cheaper with his brother as the main driver.....

OP give NFU (National Farmers Union) a call and get a quote. They don't quote online but I managed to get down from £1400 to £750 on a 53 plate Yaris (2 years ago, was 18 and just passed)

Haha, it's cheap insurance, but a ****ing blackbox in your car, not ideal...

I mean, i'm guessing it knows what roads, are 30, 40, and what roads are the national speed limit? When I was taking lessons, I was driving 30 in a 30mph zone and I always got over taken...

Need to build up my NCB, i want nice cars down the line in a few years, best to drive now, build up my NCB, and i'll reap the benefits later.

Because I'll be using the car most of the time, he will be doing the occasional long distant trips a few times every month.

Also, I think if I'm not the main driver, I won't build up my NCB which is pointless really.

Cheapest I could get for your details was 1800, and that was with guessing things like brother's job etc.

My son has Coop black box insurance (at 17 it was that or nothing).

We have had two refunds now as he has been rated good all year. You say no night driving - the curfew measurement is the one that makes most difference to your rating, if you stick to one day a week going past 11pm you can still rate good/excellent.

It's not been nearly so restrictive as we thought it would, and it was a quarter of the price of some quotes. Lots of companies wouldn't even quote for a 17 y/o boy.

By the way, with the milages you are quoting, your brother is the main driver, not you. If he is a Police Officer he will know all the rules and regulations.
