Re: TSR Game Bargains ThreadI see where you're coming from, but I think that Steam would have greater power to sell more games than PSN. I think if enough of a cut was offered to Sony they'd be happy to adopt Steam as their digital outlet, particularly because of how popular and respected it is and all of the benefits that would come with it.(Original post by estel)
Whilst I can see why Valve would be interested in having some form of marketplace on another platform, I think the limited factor here will far more likely be Sony. The strength of consoles as a platform is built on the complete control that the platform holder has over the content that's available on it, and I can't see Sony ever allowing Valve to run their own digital storefront in parallel to PSN.
But I feel I may be dragging this thread slightly off topic here...

Why do you think Steam would hve a greater power to sell more games than Sony already does? Steam is a hugely established brand and the biggest digital distributor... on PC. On PS3, all of the advantages that Steam holds on PC would vanish: it has no existing software library to distribute and no established presence amongst PS3 gamers. This in addition to the fact that Sony would never allow two parallel certification routes for software to make it onto PS3. -
Re: TSR Game Bargains Thread
Last night I went through the Steam catalogue to note down things I'd be interested in buying in the sale. That includes a list of games that I might consider if (but only if) they are reduced in price (sometimes quite considerable drops required). There's just £15 of games I'll definitely buy, a further £25 that I might buy (those games are already reduced by 50/66/75%), and others which I might buy if reduced. Of course, I know some of them are very unlikely (if Crysis and Mass Effect 2 go on sale for a single day again during this sale then I doubt they'll be any cheaper than when they were on sale last week, and I can get hard copies of both games for even less), and there's also a chance of things going on sale and being evil and encouraging me into impulse buying (like Galcon Fusion which I bought last night)

Re: TSR Game Bargains Thread
This sale has made me boot up my PC. There's not much in the THQ pack that interests me, but for that price, no doubt there will be a few games in there to keep me occupied long enough to make it more than worth it!
And I've not even looked at the rest of the sale yet. Glad it's pay day Tuesday. -
Re: TSR Game Bargains ThreadTo be fair, I doubt you'll have as little willpower as I had in the Christmas sale(Original post by hobo06)
I get the feeling I may start to regret this. It's probably what I need to get back into PC gaming properly...but this does also mean a lot of time and money disappearing.

Re: TSR Game Bargains Thread
Today: 66% off Hearts of Iron, £5 City of Heroes, Force Unleashed £5, Half Life £4, Zeno Clash £2.81, SupCom2 £8.49, Audiosurf £1.50, Company of Heroes Complete £15, L4D2 £6.80
My recommendations from that lot would be Zeno Clash and Audiosurf, tbh.Last edited by estel; 26-06-2010 at 18:32. -
Re: TSR Game Bargains Thread
I was hoping L4D2 would come up later in the sale, as it's on my "maybe if reduced considerably" list
Especially as I haven't touched L4D in quite a while, I'll have a think about it overnight, but I might end up giving that a miss for now and maybe it'll be included in a final day rehash and I'll know where I stand financially by then.

Re: TSR Game Bargains ThreadWhat's the word on the street about Force Unleashed? Looks decent, but I've heard that it's a dodgy port. Though for just £5...?(Original post by estel)

Re: TSR Game Bargains ThreadThe Max Payne bundle, especially MP2, is an absolutely essential play. They're both up there in my best games of all time; I've lost count of how many times I've played through the two of them - in fact, I'm on another MP1 playthrough at the moment.(Original post by Dalimyr)

Civ IV is totes awesome.
DoW II is pretty cool. -
Re: TSR Game Bargains Thread
I am very tempted by Max Payne, particularly at that price.
As for Dawn of War II, anyone looking at that should consider the THQ pack for only £6.50 more. You get Dawn of War I and II, the add ons, and a load of other games. There's bound to be something in there to make that extra £6.50 worth it. -
