Nah generally just a credit pass in the subject you want to do i.e a 1 or 2 in history to progress to history higher.

Do you need to get all credit passes in standard grade?
that's what my careers advisor said.

You had to get a credit pass in the subject you wanted to take but if you had already picked highers before the summer and only got a 3 in the subject they would let you take the higher as long as they were sure you were going to work hard at it.
Depends on school policy but generally you won't be put forward for a higher if you didn't get a credit pass in the standard grade for that subject.

To do highers in 5th year do you need to get a few credit passes in standard grade?

Yes, generally for most schools you would need to get a credit pass in Standard Grade to be able to take it to Higher.
