    64bit Athlon Laptop
I am considering buying a laptop for university starting in October. What do you think of this laptop COMPAQ - AMD ATHLON 64 3500+? How do you rate it? I like the look of the Sony Viao, but are they worth the money?

Well. It'll be faster/the same as the P4 laptops. But it'll have 64bit, so it'll work with the new windows, and it uses less power than the P4

I couldn't reccomend the AMD64's more. Thats a very good price to considering its got a huge harddrive and 1Gb RAM

The batterly life will suck on it - it has a desktop processor. Youre talking about 4 or 5 times the power usage. If its for desktop replacement (as in, it'll be plugged in 95% of the time) then its fine, if you want to take itout an about, i'd look at a different model.

Cool and Quiet Turn it on and it'll drop the voltage a Ghz as required.

You could get the Turion, which is the same chip but designed to use even less power

Yeah but it still won't have anything like the battery life of a centrino. It will be crazy powerful, though, and if you are keeping it plugged in most of the time there's no problem!

I would go for Turion if I was going to buy an AMD laptop.
