First year maths and physics

Hey everyone, (and especially current students at IC)

I would just like to know what chapters are studied in maths and physics in the beginning of the year for Engineering courses at Imperial. (I think that it does not really matter because for the first weeks/months you should not have very specialised lectures...well at least it's what I think)

In fact I'm international and I'm just curious to see what I'll do next year, and if eventually if I have time start to look at the chapters.

Thanks!

I'm not sure but, have you had a look at the syllabi? Imperial allows you to see the syllabi of each undergraduate subject:

Hope this helps

Thanks Unperfect! It's really detailed and it helps (I did not find it last time I went on the website...:frown: lol ). Although it seems that I've done almost everything in the first year of maths for the Engineering degrees...

It is maybe asking for too much, but I did not find past year exams...do some people know where I can find them? It would still be for maths and physics, so the first tests of the year (then it may get too complicated I do not know yet)

You're welcome!
for past exam papers, you can only see the maths ones( http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/mathematics/students/undergraduate/exampapers )
the engineering ones are only available on the intrantet( http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/library/learningandsupport/findingexampapers/engineering )...
and the natsci ones(phys specifically) are only on demand it seems( http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/library/learningandsupport/findingexampapers/naturalsciences )..
So you might want to try and ask current imperial students if you're desperate lol
Also you said you'd done all the first year maths, but surely wouldn't the first year cover the same topics you did but in more detail(you do the french bac right?)?

Thanks so much!! It's a bit stupid of me but I did not have the idea to check the Maths department lol. The links are just great thanks again!
It doesn't really matter for the Engineering and Nat sci ones, I'm going to focus on maths

Oh, of course I did not cover it in the same depth, and there are also some chapters that I did not cover yet.
Looking at the syllabus for Mech Eng (you gave me the link...remember? lol), I did all the vectors stuff, all the analysis stuff, all the differential equations, but I never covered Matrix Algebra or Numerical methods (plus there are details with which I'm not familiar)

If I covered so much, it's because I do a bac OIB S (that is a scientific baccalaureate...more maths/pysics...do you know about it?) plus further maths (spé maths) plus other lessons because my school convinced me to prepare the International Olympiads of Mathematics. (I also participate in the French Olympiads)

And even if I know a large part of the 1st year, I'm sure that we will cover it in much more depth (well I imagine) and also there is a huuuuge adaptation between French and English maths so basically I have a lot of work to do  Thanks for giving me the possibility to do so lol
