    Re: Russians
I've neglected this thread for a while, hello again, how are all the lovely russians doing.

On the subject of russians, do any girls, get the prostitute thing? I swear all through school theres been the sly russian prozzie jokes, because i'm russian (as well as the vodka, and russian spy jokes). It's so annoying, but i dont blame the steriotype. When i visited russia last year the girls all dressed like complete slags, and whenever i see any russian women on the tube (which i see so many of) the all look the same, bleached fake blonde hair and WAY too much make up. I really dont get it, it looks gross.
I'm Russian, Kosak, and Jewish (although im not actually jewish, its just the heritage), so i guess i dont fit the blonde russian steriotype.

    hmmm...
i do agree that there are loads of girls with bleached hair but no way they all are like that!btw loads of girls from eastern europe in general have hair like that, who are not always russian. So i wouldnt generalise it.

People always told me nice jokes about russia and actually they normally compare me to either Kurnikova or Sharapova and, yes who are both blonde, but they are pretty girls and i have no problem with that.
when i took my bf to SPb 2 years ago he was quite shocked how goodlooking all my friends were and that neither of them had a boyfriend. so i guess it depends where you go. whenever i go to visit my family i get slikely depressed as i dont get so much attention from guys as i do in england. think thats because there are so many pretty girls around, and cas all guys are way too full of themselves!
in my opinion it all depends on how u act/behave. if slutty then the prozzie stereotype comes in.
    however thats only my opinion

    Re: Russians
Hmmm obviously i'm not suggesting all russian girls are tasteless prostitutes, there are obviously loads of beautifal russians (models and the like), but when i went to Moscow it really was the majority. About 90% of people i'd see out on the streets looked really cheap and slutty - overly fake tan, short short skirts, extravagent fur, bleached hair etc etc. I also visited a russian school (this was on school trip) and the girls my age and younger (im 17) were going to school in thigh high leather stiletos - nice, and were way to overly sexual.
I am russian, and i know that all russian women arent like that it just seems the majority are. My sister goes to russian alot because she works in politics, for internaional NGOs, and shes often been told if she wants to impress, get good interviews, to just wear a short skirt and a low cut tops (perverts!).

I am definatly not slutty but i still get the prozzie thing in london.

p.s. Not meaning this reply to be offensive, just my observations, im definatly not suggesting any of conform to a russian prozzie image!

ETA: I just had a look at your profile, and you DEFINATLY do not fit that steriotype, i think you look quite scandinavian, it the big blue eyes methinks. My mum always says that kate moss looks typically russian, because of her eyes.
They love their children too (so says Sting).
What russians? My mummy loves me :p:
Surely everyone loves their children though?

Yes, hence why it is (supposedly) bad to nuke Russia. You have been told.

I'd like to point out that Moscow is completely different from other places in Russia, and the further away from Moscow you go, the less common this image will be. I come from Siberia and a lot of people (ok, most people) wear stiletos and very fashionable ( not casual) clothes to school, but they are certainly on the other side of the fence between "slatty" and "enhanced beauty".
I'm all for natural enhanced beauty Can't even bear wearing a black eye liner or fake tan.

I don't get that. What is that about??

Backa Russians! Harashoo! Ja... love..? St. Petersburg.
I can't - suprise suprise - speak Russian but I'd often thought I'd like to. It's criminally complicated and difficult language to learn, though.

well Russia belongs under Slavic cultures right? and I'm Slovak and Slovakia also belongs under the group of countries with a Slavic culture so I might be indirectly connected to Russia and my name is Russian but I can say only one sentence : celuju te na tvoje guby (which is supposed to mean: I'm kissing your lips )

. Both Russian and American traditional culture (such as movies, music, etc.. ) are pretty similiar.
Wow, I don't really understand where that comes from...could you elaborate please?Unless you convince me with further arguments, I fully disagree with that statement.
I am a bit like you Kondar, I am French/Austrian, my mom is a russophile, and she infected me. I have been studying Russian for 4 years now, and have been to St.Petersburg (my favourite city with Vienna). I also enjoy Russian literature, movies and music. I would definitely like to live there later on.

S DNEM POBEDI, dorogie zemlyaki!!! Have been wearing a ribbon with the Russian flag today (not that I underestimate the role of other nations in the war, like the Latvian, Turkmens and others). It's a shame that hardly anyone in England remembers and honours the soldiers who were fighting for the freedom of their countries!

    I have a Russian friend.

She is super duper cool and she has a cool name - Katerina!

I want to know more about Russians and the country.

Is there a kinda of stereotype in Russia? Like a Chav in England?
