Welcome to the University of Durham forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from the differences between colleges to the nightlife, an abundance of Rahs to the Stockton campus.
I'm going to be a grumpy old 4th year this year, and frankly all these young 'uns bouncing about on here, worrying abuot freshers week, sicken me. Mainly because I'm so jealous and such.
So, old people! Unite with me!
And grumble about things!
Specifically; Why in the name of our lord Sir Jesus Christ is the library not open 24 hours? Or at LEAST for decent hours on saturday.
I'm really going to enjoy sitting back and watching the carnage of freshers week this year. IT always amuses me how Freshers can't take their booze for the first few weeks.

Because it really isn't as big a workload as anyone thinks, unless you're some goon on a uber-first, we just like to make everyone else think it's really hard.
I'm on a comfortable 2.1 and can safely say that I've been the laziest bastard known to man.

Ah, I KNEW it! Evil scientists trying to make me think I'm doing a doss degree (well, I am, but that's beside the point...) You have no essays and no work outside lectures. Lazy gits.
No, we still have loads more work than arts students, it's just still not a great deal.
Last term, for example, I had a 5000 word essay, a 10 page computing project, a 30 page lab report as well as weekly problems(HARD!), and an average of about 22 hours a week in lectures/labs/tutorials.
wheras most arties (as we physicists call you) probably break down in tears at the thought of more than 3 things to hand in per term, and more than 7 contact hours per week.
