You can have a guest stay, sure. Wouldn't advise it though. Don't you want to be able to make the most of meeting new people?

of course I do!
but the fact that I currently live in a totally different continent and that I went to England only twice kind of stresses me out. I can't imagine how I'm going to feel going out of the airport alone haha, so it's great that guests are allowed during that first week. do you know how long they're able to stay? or do they not really check?

They don't really check, so long as they are not living there for more than a week then it should be fine. The only problems you may encounter are the cleaner and the fire alarm drill in the first week. But you could probably explain it to the cleaner and the fire alarm just means you will both have to leave the building as they probably check the rooms.

There is another alternative - International Orientation, basically a 4 or 5 day event that takes place the week before Arrivals Weekend - it sets up transport from airports/stations and takes you to campus. In most cases you will be able to move into your room straight away (as long as you have a place on campus). You're allowed to bring an additional person from the airport onto the coach, and it says on the FAQ page that family/friends should stay at a local Hotel/B+B - but if you're in your accommodation already it doesn't really matter. They won't be able to participate in the Orientation events though.
Hello,
I'm wondering if anybody could help please. I'm going for a group interview for the person centred counselling degree today and I'm so nervous as I have no clue what to expect. This is my first time applying for a university course so it's a real big deal to me. Also I've not studied for a year and what if I don't remember anything I've learnt! So could somebody please tell me what a group interview consists of?

thank you

Is it possible that if I don't make my offer Warwick will still accept me? I need to have 38/45 and 6/7 in maths. I will most definitely get those 38 points but screwed up p1 in maths and am now slightly worried about maybe getting 5.
Have any of u slightly missed their offer and got accepted nevertheless? I've heard quite a few stories about it happening, however none of them about Warwick (cause I don't know anyone that applied to Warwick)

You will have to be lucky. Last year for Maths the STEP exam (an extra requirement included in the offer) was much more difficult than previous years, meaning that the department failed to meet the target of ~240 UK/Home students - they then accepted at least 10 or so people who missed the offer by one grade. Compare that to the year before where the STEP exam was much easier, meaning that the department were oversubcribed by about 20 so probably wouldn't have accepted additional students.

To be honest for Maths it's very difficult for the them to get the numbers right - they make 1500 offers for 240 places. 550 or so people firmed Warwick and yet less than half met their offer (because the exam is quite difficult). Other departments won't make as many offers/have such a high firm to acceptance drop out, so the oversubscribed/undersubscribed swing is less.

So, it is a bit of luck whether there will be places. And seeing as you're doing IB I'm guessing the results come out sooner. Should you fail to meet your offer I'm not sure if the uni will hold you until A level results or something. Regardless, you have some sort of advantage as you can get onto the phone with them well in advance of the A level group.

Hello there!
I hope someone could help me with my question since I couldn't find and answer on the website.
I am an international student and I have to pay the band 2 fee. Can it be paid in installments, in two parts for example, or is the whole amount supposed to be given at the beginning of the year?

This year the information was here. You can choose to pay all at once at the start of term, or in installments without extra cost. You pay 25% at the start of term, 25% 3 weeks later, along with the first term accommodation fees. In January there's another 25% along with term 2 accommodation fees and in April/May there's the final 25% and final term accommodation fees.

Check out the Warwick Accommodation Thread for possible accommodation choices and there's also a list of prices for campus accommodation in the guide in the first few posts. Campus rents for 10/11 are here.

Thanks a lot for the speedy response:smile:.
The link seems quite helpful!
Are there any water dispensers in the Grid? Like the ones in the library or in Maths?

I'm thirsty. Or will I have to use a tap?

Where are the water dispensers in the library?!!
Last time I went to the Grid there was a water dispenser on the first floor, straight ahead when you get up the stairs, opposite the presentation rooms :yep:

Floor two by the men's toilets and lifts and on floor 4 in the same area by the lifts.

I don't go to the Grid much as it's further away than Maths/Library for me. But I decided to have a change when doing an all nighter (normally I do it in Maths) and it's only the 3rd or 4th time I've been there.
Hello,

I live in Canada and will be coming to Warwick for Film Studies in October. I conveniently come with allergies to dairy and gluten, so my meal choices are rather limited. I know that there are grocery stores and such on campus, but are there good choices for those with lots of dietary restrictions?
Thanks!

p.s tesco is a big supermarkets:smile:
Great, thanks for the help!

Also, for the moving in day, is it usually really busy? As an international student, does Warwick have an option where you can move in a day or two earlier?

Also, do parents typically come with students to the Orientation?

There's an Orientation programme specifically for international students that takes place in the week leading up to Arrivals Weekend. It means you get an extra 5 days or so to settle into uni and sort out tuition fee payment/enrolment/getting your uni card as well as other activities like visiting areas around the campus and beyond as well as taster sessions and lots of other things. You can get picked up from the airport and there can be an extra space on the coach for a family member or friend, however they cannot participate in Orientation activities and the rule is they must stay in other accommodation (I'm not sure how flexible that rule is). On Friday October 1st in the evening Orientation officially ends and there is then Arrivals Weekend where everyone who is from the UK typically moves in. Parents normally come up and help move their stuff in, but most will then probably be gone by the evening - that's the time where everyone socialises/goes to the Freshers Arrivals Party in the SU or something.

Check out that link above and look at the programme for last year - things will stay roughly the same for this October.

Oh, and you seem to be a new user. If you haven't already, start looking at accommodation to live in (it's opening late-May at present, but this was previously mid-May and before that late-April and before that Spring time). Check out the Warwick Accommodation Thread. There's a guide in the first few posts that may be helpful. Seeing as you are an international student, perhaps 39 week lets are more useful, but there are International Students who live in 30 week lets, but it's just a bit more hassle dealing with stuff in the holidays.
