how does the accomodation system work? i rang up and then told me that you are considered equal to someone who applied in like march or something because the rooms arent allocated til august?

could i get a en-suite single if im applying for accomodation within a day or two?
Unless they've changed the system, you can't guarantee that you will get an en-suite. However, you can apply to as many as it will allow you to (I know when I applied in 2011 the rules meant that it was only possible to put down 3, 2 of which were over my budget) and see what happens. You shouldn't stand any less chance of getting an en-suite than someone who applied months ago.

The exception to this would be if you suffer from any form of physical or mental health conditions which mean that you absolutely must have your own bathroom. If this is the case, I suggest phoning Warwick and explaining the situation. I think you need a doctor's certificate if this is the case.

For a trip of that distance, you would be looking at either train, coach, or some combination of the two. If you've got the date/time of travel you need then I might be able to look it up on the appropriate websites. Also, judging by the forum you're posting in, is Warwick university your final destination? Because if so then you don't necessarily have to look at routes that go via Victoria.

Trains are often delayed by a few minutes so you'd need to allow time for that, as well as time to find the platform if it's a large station.

Edit: But that depends what sort of ticket you've got. If you have an 'advance' ticket then you would need to get the train you're booked on. If you have 'off peak' or 'anytime' then you would be able to just get a later train if you missed yours. But those tickets are more expensive.
Yeah, Warwick is my final destination. Now, that I looked at map, I realize that it is faster to go to Warwick straight from Luton.. sorry, I was a bit lost I'm from overseas and ,well, UK is a bit more complex than my home country

Ok then. Assuming you're travelling on 29 september in the afternoon, the cost is fairly similar for going by train or coach (£10-£14 approx). Going by coach seems to be the best option as you would have fewer changes.

If you go by coach then you would get on your coach at the airport then get off at Coventry (make sure you book to go to Coventry not Ricoh arena or Warwick university). Then at Coventry bus station, you would get the number 12 bus to campus. All number 12 buses from the bus station will go through campus, regardless of whether they say Warwick University or Leamington Spa on the front.

If you go by train, you would first get a bus from the airport to Luton Airport Parkway station. Then you would get a train from there to St Pancreas in London. You can then either walk down the road to Euston station or take one stop on the tube to get to Euston. From Euston station, you then get a train to Coventry station and from there you can get the number 12 bus to the university.

Here are some useful links for information and booking:

    Luton airport: http://www.london-luton.co.uk/en/con...s---coach.html

    Train times/booking: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/

    National express coach times/booking: http://www.nationalexpress.com/home.aspx

Number 12 timetable: http://nxbus.co.uk/routes/coventry/C...vice_timetable Make sure you have the right day selected and be aware that for some of the column headings you have to hover over them to see if they apply in term time (UT) or in the holidays (UH). But you may as well just get the next bus that leaves and not worry about the timetable.

Hey I'm just wondering what the Internet connection is like in campus accomodation, as in whether it is wired or wireless? Thanks!

It's wired, although bluebell, benefactors and possibly one or two other halls have wireless available in some communal areas.

    Can I ask something:

Is self-catering hard work? I want to live healthily and I fear cooking in a kitchen of 22-26 may mean I wont be able to make reasonably advanced dinners Should I cook earlier than everyone else? Whens the peak time for people making dinner?

Really random question I know, but when submitting a photo to be used for our ID, is it okay to just scan in a Passport sized photo and use that?

Yep, it really doesn't matter that much. It just goes on your uni card for the next few years...

If you're talking about the Westwood kitchens then the kitchens are correspondingly larger to account for there being more people, e.g. there are two sinks, two sets of hobs etc. So most of the time it shouldn't be a problem with having other people in the way (if it is busy then you could always just wait a bit). One thing to watch out for though is that since there is a cleaner, no-one will bother cleaning the surfaces themselves so you might find that all of the surfaces are dirty. In this case you could either just wipe them down yourself or be creative with the surfaces you use e.g. preparing food on top of the microwave or on the windowsill.

Self catering is fine. It's definitely possible to live healthily (and cheaply!), especially if you're a fan of vegetarian food - good meat is pricey and scarse in the local Tesco, and when I was in AV last year our oven was really dodgy so not good for cooking meat in really. (It was finally replaced last term, just so no one worries that they'll get our rubbish oven haha!) It depends how advanced you're wanting to go, but I never had any problems! My flatmate was a culinary genius and did amazing things like making bread and cooking mussels in special sauces and making pizza completely from scratch, and she seemed to manage just fine! As for peak time, it tends to depend on your flatmates, so I'd wait and see if I were you! The sharing will be fine though, I didn't hear of anyone who had problems with it.

Or you could end up with flatmates that just use the microwave :dontknow: . It just depends on the flatmates that you end up with :yep:

Does anybody know how long it usually takes to get an official welcoming letter from Warwick? I wanted to register online and upload my photo for the ID card but it said I needed a Uni number which I'll be getting on the official welcome letter.

You might be able to find out your university number another way. Dig out your old emails and see if you can find an email from Warwick confirming your UCAS application. In previous years, this has contained your university number at the top. Yours should probably start with 12.

    This.

I looked back into my Warwick emails and it was the one congratulating me on my offer - not an acceptance letter - it was talking about conditional/unconditional offers etc.

You'll be fine, unless you need a metric ****ton of space for some modernist cuisine related scientific equipment, such as a rotovap, or are bringing an industrial 50gal stand mixer. I lived in Westwood and was just fine, with respect to cooking meals that took a long time. I've had dishes running for a couple hours or so before, and it's not been as much of a bother, with respect to the hobs. Just stick it on the rear burner. The issue comes with monopolising both the ovens at peak times, as our kitchens only had two and a fair number of people cooked/heated up food in the oven.

    Ok, thanks.

Is westwood noisy by any chance? Also, is it possible to have a quiet area of rootes? I've heard it's pretty noisy too...
I'm just worried I get allocated in an area that isn't exactly...study-friendly if you get what I mean!

I never found noise to be a massive problem, but I was in Arthur Vick and am fairly oblivious anyway, so that probably helped. I know a lot of people who said that Rootes was really noisy to begin with but calmed down a lot after a few weeks. Once you move in, if you feel that you need somewhere quieter to study, there's always the library, which is super nice, open till midnight, and tends to be open 24 hours in exam term. There are some floors which allow group work and talking, and others which are fairly strict on the silence thing, so no matter what kind of environment you want, you're sure to find it there!

What is the best bus to get from Kenilworth? I'm in the School of Medicine so getting off at the top of Gibbet Hill (off the X17) is ok in the morning but not so good if I'm leaving main campus in the evening, is there a Stagecoach bus that leaves from main campus and goes through Kenilworth?
I'd prefer Stagecoach because I can use the pass to get to Warwick but I'm planning on getting a year long pass so I don't want to regret it. I also found an article which said Stagecoach was reviewing it's Kenilworth timetable, I don't know if that's a good thing or not!

Long question short: Which bus pass do students living in Kenilworth buy?

For the information of other freshers, I found this recent post saying the number 12 service is changing slightly from October:http://www.warwickshire.gov.uk/busservicechanges

The U2 goes through Kenilworth at the weekends, but the U1 does not throughout the week.

As far as I'm aware, the only one which goes through Kenilworth and campus is the 12, and of course that isn't Stagecoach.
