Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Check out The Warwick Accommodation Thread, especially the guide at the beginning. With it you can gauge which halls fit you best(Original post by Ultimate1)
So have got an offer for MORSE. I just want to ask, which accomodation is usually known at the best one? I've heard about Rootes the most. Also which accomodation has the most integration between people/socialising?

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Haha true about making my own cheaply. Thanks for the reply anyway!(Original post by ttoby)
You're not that far from Kelsey's - coming from Avenue road towards Leamington, turn right onto Lower Avenue then left onto High Street then you'll be at Kelsey's.
If you do decide to use the bus stop by the church anyway, it's the one immediately after Kelsey's so I don't know how quickly the bus will fill up to cause a problem catching it here.It depends what you want to get. A 40p half baguette from Tesco can fill me up quite quickly or you could eat somewhere like Costa which would be much more expensive.Approximately £3 for things there. There are plenty of other places to eat on campus. The library itself has two cafes.
One way of saving money is to ignore everything I said above and instead prepare your own sandwiches and bring them in. It's a much cheaper way of doing things. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)
Can anyone tell me his/her experiences as a postgrad student at Warwick? Some insight on the writing program would be great as well. I know it's hard to have any sort of expectations since I haven't even set foot in the UK yet and am completely unfamiliar with the modules in the MA writing course as well as the professors, but just learning of other peoples' opinions and experiences would be a great help! Thanks.

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)
Hi. I'm sorry to give you another question to answer, but you're being so helpful
. I was just wondering, in my second year, are there facilities available that allow me to drive my scooter on to campus for when I have lectures etc? I'm studying English and Theatre so I think the majority of my time will be spent in the Humanities builiding. I've read about the lack of parking spaces, but I'm just wondering if there's any real point me having my scooter whilst I'm at uni.

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)The Maths Dept courses are perhaps some of the most flexible courses in the country, especially from the first year. Course Regulations may be of interest to you, but Maths and Econ are somewhat limited to their options compared to the straight Maths course.(Original post by beatnik3)
i have an offer for Maths and Econ do you know how much prob and stats there is? If not a lot is it possible to transfer to Morse?
Where could i find the placement report of Warwick graduates ?
Thx
First year you must take and Econ module and both Probability courses, but other than that you can take any option you choose. As long as you keep choosing the relevant Econ/Stats modules as options, you have the option to switch to MORSE (as long as you meet the entrance requirements at A level).
Graduate Destinations Site as well

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)I was one mark off my offer last summer and they didn't let me in, so no(Original post by Krydel)
That's literally exactly what i would like to know. Two lots of rep coming to whoever can answer
Long story but I grovelled and got remarks etc so got here eventually, even though I do live in off-campus halls (but with awesome flatmates
)

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Would actually like to change that answer:
Apparently you are not allowed to park motorbikes on the pavement/in the cycle areas (even though people do), so you have to use the car parks (see map). Car parks 7 and 8 have designated bike parks on the ground floor, and 7/8 are very near Humanities. Car park 16 also has space

I did some advance maths close to first year uni in France.
Do you know where i could find exam papers / course material and longer descriptions of the modules to get a better idea of what exactly I will be studying?
thx
Furthermore Do you know what is warwick placement like in strategy consultancy and in M&A (BB), is it possible to do it straight after undegrad?Last edited by beatnik3; 31-03-2011 at 18:00. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Well, regardless of the change, I'm still happy(Original post by TheTallOne)

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)My experience-(Original post by *BB*)
Hey,
I've firmed Warwick for Law, 2011 entry.
Does anybody know if they're lenient at all with grades ie. offer AAA but you receive AAB with one or two UMS from an A? Or is it strictly the offer no matter what?
Got an offer for Economics AAAa .
I got AABa (missed the maths by 2 UMS /600), and an A* in the AQA extended project (I think this helped)
Rung them and tried blag it to do economics, they said no, but then offered me Accounting and Finance instead. As it happens I was given the option to change back to economics when I got there, but A&F is a great course so I decided not to.
Also it will to depend on the course. Economics and Law are super competitive, others subjects are less so like my course so I think they would be more lenient with them. Also, if you miss and are offered a similar, less competitive course (e.g law and sociology), take it as you might well be able to change when you get there. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Can't be certain, but bikes and scooters are small things anyway so there should be plenty of space(Original post by elstevens)

Check out Analysis I, Vectors and Matrices for some material as well. I'd suggest looking through PYDC and Googling the lecturer's name to find their webpage. Sometimes they have material there.
Once you get your login details in September you can check out MathStuff for some more material.
And with future job prospects, it's bright. But you have to be proactive with applications and the careers service - they don't go out looking for you. Certainly M&A at BBs - get onto the Spring Weeks, then Internship, then Grad. Then Win.Last edited by TheTallOne; 01-04-2011 at 14:30. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)
Having a hell of a time choosing between Warwick MMORSE and LSE Actuarial.
There are two factors...
1 - The course, which may not be the most important
2 - The life and school, as in I have heard disappointing things about both LSE and Warwick, in teaching and atmosphere -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Well unless you find several people who have studied the same or similar courses at both LSE and Warwick, it's going to be hard to get single answer to this.(Original post by lightningfist)

They are both very contrasting as far as student life. LSE is in the city, whereas Warwick is on campus.
Teaching at Warwick is good in general, and (M)MORSE is a renowned course. It also has a good reputation in 'The City', where many people with degrees like those end up working. Having said that, it wouldn't have the reputation of a place like LSE in 'The City', which LSE has been called the 'breeding ground' for. I have also heard bad things about the teaching and actual enjoyment of courses at LSE, but obviously I can't speak for anyone who has actually done the course. -

If you are DEAD CERTAIN 100% SURE that an actuarial course is suitable and you wish to persue a career asa future qualified actuary, I would give no hesitation to the question that you should definitely pick LSE!! the course obviously is geared towards people who wish to become an actuary, but say you get bored of the degree, believe me loads of ppl have dropped out because either they dont like the syllabus or the difficuluty, but in this case its the syllabus, then you have a problem, espeically if you want to change to something like maths for example! BUT like I said if you are sure to be an actuary go to LSE as the connections you will make at a world class uni will be an amazing and enjoying experience especially that you'll be in westminister, one of the nicest parts of London!
on the other hand if you are not sure, I would rate MORSE, as in the last year you can specialise in Actuarial maths, which might seem more appealing rather than doing it for 3 years and realising im bored of this etc... Plus you can specialise in other areas such as stats, OR and economics as well! Dont downgrade reputation of MORSE/WARWCIk just because LSE is better, Warwick is still an excellent university, so I shouldnt worry bout job prospects as they are very good!
to conclude: If you are sure an actuarial career is right for you and want to enjoy city life LSE
or... if you arent sure, want a degree that is very flexible indeed and still has very good career prospects despite the uni not being in the city, go warwick! -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)
Hi there!

I read every reply in this thread (yep, took a while...) and I find it very helpful. There are a few questions that I couldn't find answered, so here they are:
1.- Where can you buy every-day stationery (A4 paper, folders, binders, stapler, etc) on campus? Where do you buy blu-tack?
2.- I think I saw somewhere in other forum that people were having trouble with deliveries from Amazon.uk. Have anybody here bought something online to be delivered to his/her accommodation on campus? How was it? Any delay?
3.- I read somewhere that an international MSc student got his accommodation contract from September 15, without requesting it and without paying extra (I know postgrads can move in up to 1 week prior arrivals weekend, if they pay for those days). Any feedback on this? For me it would be quite good to be able to move in as early as possible.
4.- Is it allowed to take a cup of tea to your room on campus? I'm used to drink tea of coffee whilst studying. What about food?
5.- Is the library always full? Do departments have their own libraries for MSc students to study there?
6.- How full is the learning grid? Is it totally full during exams time?
7.- Any information about the construction works that are planned/have already started around Lakeside and Heronbank area?
Thanks everybody!

2. I compulsively buy from Amazon and I've never had a problem. The post room sends you a card and you just take it with you to the post room with your ID and they'll give you your package
3. I'm an undergrad so can't help you
4. You could make tea in your kitchen/ buy at Costa and take it to your room if that's what you mean? There is no one stopping you. I've eaten meals in my room sometimes while studying. It all depends on if you want your room to smell of tea/coffee or not
5 and 6. They get full during peak study hours but if you reach there a little early you shouldn't have a problem.
7. Can't say I know anything about that. Sorry.
Hope this helps
