Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)(Original post by AlicePM)
When can we enrol? Do we have to wait to get an email from the department or something like that?
What he said(Original post by TheTallOne)
You must complete online enrolment first (see Welcome to Warwick for more details on absolutely everything) and then at the same time get your ITS account. At this point you can then register for modules (or when your department opens registration - before the start of term) through my.warwick.ac.uk and then the following day the timetable will reflect your module choices.
Once you arrive (on Arrivals Weekend/in the above table) you can complete enrolment (collecting your uni card). If you are going on Orientation then you will be given the opportunity to enrol a few days earlier.

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)And if you are in the Italian department it will definitely come out a LOT later...(Original post by kuks)
You will need to enrol to get your login details and your timetable should come up on my.warwick.ac.uk after you enrol. It may come out a little later though. If you're doing a WBS course then your timetable will be on my.wbs.ac.uk which is a much better site

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)It's fine now they're with T-Mobile(Original post by Mouse Potato)
Does anyone know if Orange network has good signal? I've read a lot on it being horrendous, but seeing as they're now twinned with T-Mobile I wondered if it's okay now? Somebody said on another thread that T-Mobile have a mast on campus, is this still the case?

Re: Maths at Warwick as a reapplicant?(Original post by uxa595)
Hi, i just got my A2 results which were BBC.
It is really just C4 and M2 along with june exams for other subjects which ruined my results as i was ill before the exams however i don't have any proof for this
Would i stand a resonable chance if i were to apply to Warwick with A*AA in maths, economics and chemistry considering i am a resit student?
I am also considering taking up Further maths this year.
My AS results are AAB in maths, econ and chem with 92% in maths.
My GCSE's are AAAABBCCDD(Original post by Danltn)
You could but I wouldn't be optimistic, you'd have to sit STEP and achieve a good result, and you'd almost certainly have to pick up Further Maths too.
From the Warwick Maths website:
Will I still be made an offer if I am not predicted an A* at Maths A-level?
We expect to make our Standard Offer to anyone predicted A(M)A(FM)B or better. However, our STEP requirement will prove very demanding for those not expecting to get A*(M).
Question B3: I am only studying Further Maths at AS level. Will I still be made an offer?
Based on recent experience we would expect only 2% of our intake to be admitted with AS rather than A2 Further Maths, so we do encourage you to take A2 Further Maths if at all possible and, in any case, to include at least four of the Further Pure or Mechanics modules. We will consider applications for 2012 entry from those unable to continue beyond AS and, if you have or are predicted A*(M)a(FM)AA and have four A*'s at GCSE including Maths, then we would make you the rather demanding offer A*(M)a(FM)AA 1 2 (meaning grades 1 and 2 in two STEP papers).
Realistically, I don't see it happening - sorry.I'm in a similar position - I missed my MORSE offer and am thinking of reapplying for Maths and Econ next year. I got A*A*BB in Maths, Economics, Further Maths, and Physics respectively. I should also add I missed my insurance offer too - AAA at Nottingham. After seeing my school advisor - he told me firmly that top unis will discriminate against those applicants who are resitting (I'm probably going to resit a few modules in FM to boost it up to an A*). I already know about Warwick's 'transparent' policy; I'm just not sure if it's the case for those applicants who are resitting and reapplying (or those taking a gap year). Is it likely I'll receive an offer?(Original post by TheTallOne)
If you can't get A* in A level Maths now you will struggle to survive on the Maths course at Warwick.
You also need to get an A or A* in Further Maths.
Offer to 2012 entry is A*(M) A*(FM) A 2 or A*(M) A(FM) A 1
where '2' is a Distinction in the Mathematics Advanced Extention Award (AEA) or a grade 2 in any STEP paper.
and '1' is a grade 1 in any STEP paper.
Even if you do receive an offer from Warwick, I don't think (based on your grades so far) that you will be able to meet it. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Well Warwick Maths in 2008/9 gave offers to 90+% of applicants - based on that it's quite likely. And I know people on here have received offers on their second application. Although you will need to do STEP/AEA.(Original post by Ree69)

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Yeah I'm just wondering if Warwick will be discouraged to give me an offer because of those grades - that B in FM cost me big time!(Original post by TheTallOne)

Also on http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/ma...ug/faqs/#ansb2 it says that Warwick are still happy to give offers to those applicants resitting.
On the Warwick Maths Website (although this may not be updated from last year):
Question B5: What is your attitude to me resitting an A-level unit?
We will not object to you resitting certain units, if necessary, to get your A*. We know that it can be difficult to decide how early to take an exam and are happy to leave that to you and your teacher.
I just hope this is still the case for those resitting 'certain units' whilst on a gap year! -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)
Thanks for answering all my crazy questions! I wasn't expecting to get into uni this year, so although it's been a lovely suprise it's left me feeling really unorganised! I mean, what am I supposed to take to uni? Do people usually take one suitcase or more? An where do you put it all when you get there? I applied for Rootes but when will I know whether I've got this accomodation or not? When does everyone travel down (I've got some info on emails somewhere)? Also, how do you get there? For the open day we travelled to a car park farm place and then got a free bus to the department, will it be the same then? Do you get a TV in Rootes (I should be researching my room, sorry guys!) and if so do you have to pay the license? Could I take my laptop and still be able to get on the internet from my room?
How many clothes do I take? Everything I own?
I really honestly thought I wouldn't get in, so now I'm in a total panic about sorting everything out GAHHH! -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)What to Take to University. Also check post 2 of the Warwick Accommodation Thread to see what everyone gets. But the wiki link is a good start.(Original post by qwerty7)

I took one suitcase, along with lots of other boxes of kitchen stuff, computer stuff, that sort of thing.
You put your stuff in your room and take a space in the kitchen cupboard and fridge and freezer.
Accommodation offers are given in the first half of September, you will get an email.
Everyone travels down on Arrivals Weekend (1st-2nd October) - surnames A-M are meant to move in on the Saturday, N-Z on Saturday. But go on the Saturday if possible to get there at the start, grab great kitchen spots and meet more people.
You head to main campus and follow the signs to your given halls. You can go by car. Use Google maps or something to find your route or go here. You can park relatively close to your accommodation so you won't have to carry it that far.
No TV in room, no aerial point in the room but there are in the kitchen. You need a TV license. Yes you can take your laptop, you need an ethernet cable to get internet.
Clothes: probably 2 weeks worth will be enough.
Read more here and here for more info on what's coming up.Last edited by TheTallOne; 20-08-2011 at 00:05. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)If you Think you will be arriving at a busy time (ie not really early or late) take the route that comes around the ring road and into the north end of campus. It's a lot quicker when traffic is about...like that weekend! Because of the one way system, everyone but old rootes, cryfield, redfern, hurst and perhaps one of the new bluebell things will in all liklyhood get directed via the north end of campus anyway.(Original post by TheTallOne)

Truth be told, I stayed in a cheap b&b, got to Tescos near campus early in the morn to get milk etc, and was the first of all heronbank to arrive! TOTALLY painless! -
applications 2012
I was wondering if you could give me some advice? Thanks
For my AS LEvels this year, I got AAAB, but I'm dropping one A, so I'm left with:
Maths: 81%
English literature: 87%
Economics: 75%
If i request my stats paper back which could put my mark up (but not sure because its maths), and if i try to put my englit c/w up a few marks before i send off my ucas application, do you think i should apply to warwick for economics? (A*AA) I know there aren't any 90%'s overall -_- -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)It depends where you're living. If there's a bit of a distance between your halls and the lecture theatres then it might be a good idea, although bear in mind that you might find it more enjoyable to walk to the lectures with other people from your halls.(Original post by soczek322)
Hi, I will be a fresher in October - should I bring my bike with me? Am I allowed to keep it in my room?
Thanks!!
I'm not sure if there's an actual rule about keeping bikes in your room, but most bike owners don't and you might find it gets in the way a bit, and is very impractical if you don't live on the ground floor. There may be secure cycle storage facilities near your halls. See http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/about/visi...facilities.pdf for details. -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)It probably depends on which institution you are transferring from and your exam results. It might be the case that you will need to start from year 1 again.(Original post by iheartmondays)
Can you transfer from another university to Warwick for the same course? -
Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Ah I see, I got an offer from Warwick for PAIS. Missed my offer I got BBBB. I'm thinking of transferring if I was to go to university (from Aston in their PAIS/PAIR degree).(Original post by TheTallOne)
It probably depends on which institution you are transferring from and your exam results. It might be the case that you will need to start from year 1 again.
However, this is my current situation:
I'm thinking of re-siting whilst in university and transferring. However, I'm worried that I may not perform as well in my resits whilst juggling first year university.
This is my current situation anyway, what do you think:
In Sociology: I need 23 raw marks for an A* and 12 for an A.
In Politics: I need 13 UMS marks for an A and 33 for an A*
In English I need 16 raw marks for an A and 27 for an A* (easily done if I resubmit coursework)
Should I go university and resit/remark then. Or take a 'gap' year, resit in Jan (two papers) and remark (two now in August) and do loads of work experience? -
Re: applications 2012Well, if you don't apply you will have no chance of getting an offer from here(Original post by Meha)

Main factors in your UCAS application:
GCSE Grades
AS Level grades (you don't have to declare them if they haven't been cashed in, see this)
Predicted grades (These are important, try get an A*AA prediction if possible - sometimes you might be OK with AAA since not all schools might give A* predictions)
References
Personal Statement.
What you can try to do:
Try get the A*AA prediction from your teachers.
Get a good reference
Make a stunning personal statement.
Yes, if you have to state your subject grades on your UCAS application it might have a negative impact on your applications if you have modules with Cs and Ds in (or too many Bs for that matter) but you don't really have any control over that if your AS grades were cashed in.
Best of luck

Re: Ask Absolutely Anything! (+FAQ)Ok, tough situation here(Original post by iheartmondays)

I'd first directly contact the department and see their policy on transfers from Aston to see if it possible. Send an email or call them via here. That will probably give you a firm answer
Truth is I don't know.
Obviously if they don't accept transfers then it might be better to save £3300 in fees and reapply (I think if you go to Aston for a year and then start again at Warwick you might need to pay £9000 fees anyway). Or you could do your entire course at Aston at the current fee level.
