the first video is hardly skillful. just a bit cheeky. whilst the second one is nice it hardly comes up to the same standard of the skill in the clip i posted.

Can't people just know that perhaps people actually enjoy different things? Surely there is no definitive answer on which is better, it all comes down to a matter of personal opinion.

If we're making rash conclusions based on isolated photos, then let's compare

to whoever it was in rugby who used fake blood (could find out name, but i think the fact that i don't know it to hand is sort of indicative of how little of a **** most people give about rugby)

    yep
that wasn't fake blood?? completely real and he went off got stitched up and carried on playing

I wouldn't call the O'Driscoll video overly skilful myself but I agree that there are plenty of skilful players in both rugby and football.

One thing that I always wonder about is whether the rugby ball should be called a ball at all. I thought a ball had to be spherical and the Oxford English Dictionary agrees with me:

noun 1 a solid or hollow sphere, especially one that is kicked, thrown, or hit in a game.

In the realms of rugby the first clip is an incredibly imaginative piece of skill, that without having played the game would probably be quite hard to comprehend. Although I agree it is just cheeky.

To be fair I didn't go out of my way to try and find something spectacular just the first thing that came to mind.

I'm in no way a rugby zealot or a football one for that matter, but having played both to a high standard I can appreciate the necessary skillset required for each as well as the moments of brilliance and wonder each can provide. (As well as the absolute turgid and boring performances each pops up with)

theres a difference between organisation and tactics and individual skill.

wheres the rugby equivalent of this??

maybe not the best show of how technical rugby is but its still insane!

I much prefer rugby to football. People who say rugby isn't skillful are really not paying attention; the tactical possibilities are much greater in rugby than they are in football!

    Leeds v Wasps
    Guinness Premiership
    Attendance: 4,135

    Luton v AFC Wimbledon
Blue Square Premier (5th English League)
    Attendance: 7,736

Oh and a little extra thing, football is more popular than rugby, just something to think about.
Hardly suprising since thats a Leeds game during the 6N season. Wasps can clock the entire Wycombe stadium.

The Luton game is a derby with Wimbledon, am I right? Of course that will clock a lot of viewing.

We're not arguing about popularity - we've come to an arguement about skill, by the looks of it - which rugby requires.

Nah, Luton's miles away, their derby is Watford.

Tbh, I don't enjoy watching rugby as it doesn't make a great spectacle. That is both union and league btw, I know they are quite different. Also, I think one finds that a lot more, how do you say...posh southern ***** watch rugby??? Y'know the kind of people who watch the game twice a year and pretend that they're 'so into it' and then start this tedious argument of football vs rugby. The whole argument of men vs boys is retarded. I dont watch a sport based on it's manliness (brutality), I watch it because it's interesting, e.g tennis, football, even cricket sometimes. Why the flying **** would you watch something because of it's so called manliness?

How can it be said that football requires more skill? Everyone who can walk is capable of a quick kick about at the park, hence why it is so popular. Give a rugby ball to 10 random people and I bet 9 out of 10 of them can't throw it further than 10 metres!

Rugby is played less exactly BECAUSE it's so TECHNICAL. You can't just get a ball and have a game, there's a lot more to it. For football all you need is a ball and two coats for goal posts.

As for being manly or not? (which is the issue most football supporters are 'skirting' around) How many people hate the whole diving culture surrounding Ronaldo? Then again, the fake blood thing doesn't do rugby any favours.

Funny how football is derided as a sport for whimps when footballers like Duncan Ferguson, Roy Keane and Vinnie Jones would probably give most rugby players a beating. But if you wish to accept manly sports as being a sport for thuggery, delinquent, violent behaviour then that is your choice. Besides, it's not like every single rugby player is full of steel. How often has Johnny Wilkinson been injured now? He's England RFU's version of Arsenal's Rosicky.
    You're kidding right?

    Accesibility ≠ Skill level required.

For the same reason you watch films like Troy, Rocky and Preditor as opposed to Legally Blonde or St Trinians. Or why you watch rugby and boxing as opposed to netball or bowls. It's a bit like the modern day gladiators, only without the killing.

As for rugby being for posh people? Swap the word 'posh' for 'decent'. Rugby hooligans practically don't exist and football hooliganism is everywhere! I work on a building site and live in Mansfield, absolutely nothing what so ever is posh about that, yet I prefer rugby. I suppose football reminds me too much of wrestling, how fake it is.

Don't get me wrong, I like to watch a good football game, but it is ruined completely by diving. I watched a few games from the Africa Cup Of Nations and the diving culture didn't seem to exist at all (in the games I saw) and it made the whole thing seem so much more real!

for me Football is all about your club, support the team etc, on a premiership level it's really fun to watch.

For rugby it's about international rugby really, that i like.

Yes, it is boys v men. I hate the fact that the football boys can kick a football round, fake injury, cry and get away with being thick as sh*t just because they're a footballer.
