Literature Unit is compulsory. You study this in class and will then be examined on it in the form of a 1h 30min essay. This makes up 30% of your grade.

Specialist Study i.e. dissertation is again compulsory but your are free to choose what you do it on. 3500-4500 words on your texts. This makes up 40% of your grade.

The final unit is optional. You can choose to do Creative Writing - 2 pieces of creative writing submitted to the SQA as a folio and therefore completed out of class - or you can do Textual Analysis - assessed in the form of a 1h 30min exam question, as a response to an extract given in the exam paper. This unit makes up the remaining 30% of your grade.
