great! thanks a lot
I don't want to post private information on internet forum so..mm.. I 'll just say that I go to private day school atm
 But I really want to go to boarding school - that's why I'm applying to Charterhouse/Westminster

oh and I'll choose maths and physics then  are the exams based on GCSE/GCE syllabus? because for Westiminster School, I heard that it's not worth revising because the exams are "to test a candidate’s ability" or something like that :p:

i wasn't asking exactly which school you go to, should have phrased it differently :p:

The Charterhouse maths exam I took wasn't particularly hard, the questions were like A/A* GCSE stuff.

At Westminster, they didn't ask questions specifically on maths questions it was more applying mathematical reasoning to problems. I did economics exam too and that was testing just general knowledge to test a candidates suitability for the subject.

hello
I'm in yr10 now and I'm considering applying to Charterhouse...
I want to apply to Westminster School as well - but the entrance exam day are the same (probably).. :frown:
I can't decide : Charterhouse or Westminster ???????

Oh and I have a question: from Charterhouse website = "two 45 minute papers in subjects of their own choice"
does that mean I can take both Maths & Further Maths?

I'm a girl btw

thanks

I will just say that I think the entrance procedures are different for boys and girls coming at 6th form. I've certainly heard that the girls' entrance procedure is harder than boys, purely because there's more demand for places. Not all the girls at the school are really intelligent (far from it in some cases!) but there is a lot of competition. Don't worry about doing really well and getting everything right though, the teachers here who mark the exams are very good at spotting raw ability and talent as well as hard work. I know from my scholarship exams a few years ago. Good luck!

(I'm about to leave Charterhouse, btw, not just some random guy!)

Charterhouse is such a great school - I've had the best time ever. As a new girl you have to socialise and integrate and make a real effort. The entrance exams are not hard compared to the other schools so I think its more about the overall dimension you are bringing to the school. They take very few boys into 6th form - my bro got in on schol but his mate didn't get a place. I think its easier for girls to get in .

thanks all of you

Westminster's entrance exam's on 6th Nov & Charterhouse's entrace exam's on the 13th - so I'm definitely applying to both
Im in y10 and I am considering going to charter house or Wycombe abbey which one does everyone think is best?
I want to go to Charterhouse for entry in 2012, please give me any information about entrance exams, the interview, how many girls roughly apply and how competitive is it ??????

Obviously I don't know first hand... I don't know much about the entrance exams, sorry, but I know that lots apply and it's generally very competitive, but the interview is definitely important, sometimes even more important than the entrance exams, since it gives housemasters a chance to get to know whether or not you'd be suited to go to Charterhouse, the atmosphere, etc. On the interview day (I know about house interviews, don't know if there are any others, there might be) you and a group of other girls go to one of the 11 boarding houses (assuming you're applying to board) and take it in turns to have short (from what I remember they're 10-15 minutes) interviews with that house's housemaster in his study, whilst you're waiting you usually sit in the house common room with current members of the house (usually the boys who would be in your year will be interested to come and meet people, and hopefully the current girls would also be there to make you feel at ease, answer any questions you have, etc).

I've probably left some stuff out I can't quite remember (I left Charterhouse just over a year ago)... feel free to PM me if you have any more questions

Heya - I'm a girl at Charterhouse in my second year now - I love it  Interview is fine, the entrance exams aren't particularly strenuous - but it is quite competitive for a place. Are you going for boarding or day? PM me if you have any questions!!

It was probably easier this year, then. Mostly algebra stuff.

Boo. :hugs:
Charterhouse, definitely. Wycombe is a pretty ugly school, I think. Oh, and the exams test for knowledge, rather than thinking skills, which I dislaikkk.

Ha. That was funny creepy. After the Dean housemaster kicked them off the sofas, they hid away in like a hole or something, only occasionally looking through the windows for a peep. Twas hilarious. And so cute slimy. :'D

I made some corrections

Anyone on TSR starting Charterhouse School this September?

Is there anyone who is already studying there? Are there any past pupils here on TSR?

If you just know of Charterhouse, what is your opinion of it?

I went to college with a few people from there, and every one of them was a self entitled little ****. who basically did so little work but just got taught how to pass exams and went on to oxbridge

having said that though, im sure theres plenty of nice people and school is what you make of it!

Seriously, it was quite funny, even though nobody seemed to share the same sentiment. Probably all thought I was crazy or something, from laughing so much (I didn't laugh, per se...just).

Haha nah I wasn't creepy on that day unlike most of my peers :P and haha yeah they (not me at the time cos I did have, you know, social skills and friends outside school) must've been like "OMG GIRLS OUR AGE THAT'S WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE"
