Although there are a lot of options, the vast majority of first years live at Storthes Hall. Yes, it's a 15-20 minute bus journey from town / uni campus, but the dedicated uni bus is cheap and frequent. With everyone in together, and its own shop, bar, laundrette, etc, Storthes is a proper student village. Not everyone's cup of tea (the distance from town is a problem for some people), but most first-years will be living there.

You can find out about Storthes Hall at http://www.digstortheshall.co.uk/. Also check out The Student Room's wiki article about Huddersfield.

If past years are anything to go by, you can expect most of the discussions on this board to be about "which accomodation is best" over the Summer!

I've stayed at storthes a few times visiting friends and stuff, and compared to alot of other universitys i'd say it was the best accomdation. The only thing that sucks is probably how the water tastes and the fact you have a wet room rather than a proper shower, but it's ensuite and it's good. Theres a bar on site and on the first day you pay £5 and you have a bus pass to the university bus for the rest of the year. Also, you can get student taxis, that cost £5 always from town back to storthes, so thats really good i think.
Does the university bus still run at the weekends? Or would I have to sort my own way of getting to the town centre?

So people are saying stop at storthes halls regardless of the distance?
What about the UNITE halls just next to the uni?

I'm not too fussed about getting a bus to uni, If it's better halls and cheaper pluss there are buses it's worth it isn't it??

hey guys, I'm living at storthes at the moment, and the view of the people sat in my kitchen is that it's it's well worth it for the first year, it's the best place for the experience, meeting people etc! I'm in one of the deluxe apartments, and for the slight extra payment, the added sofas make it a lot easier to socialise in your flat. yes the bathrooms are wet rooms that like to flood, but it's not anything incredibly annoying. if you have any more questions feel free to ask away

I quite like the look of Snow Island. I know not as many first years will be staying there but it's closer to the Uni and I thought it seemed nicer than Storthes Hall.
I just can't decide if I should go for the one that I think is nicer; Snow Island, or the one that everyone says is better for first years; Storthes Hall.

What about Ashenhurst Halls? What do people think of those? :s-smilie:

I've booked my room at Snow Island, purely because of the quality of the rooms and the location, I feel as though I'd need somewhere close to the uni as my workload for Pharmacy is gonna be huuuuuuge! However I also liked the look of Storthes Hall

Get in touch if anyone else plans on choosing Snow Island, I'd love to meet people!
