i was just about to ask this,
so i ring my insurance admissions office and they release me,
bit worried about doing that though just incase everything in clearing is equally as crap.

Re: getting my insurance to become my firm
If your Firm aren't having it, then you're stuck unfortunetly You have to hope you haven't got into your Firm, or go into Clearing, or reapply next year.

I doubt it, to be honest. Why did you have such a tight deadline?

im not sure my guess was they wanted to swap me for some clearing folk. Whats this "releasing" stuff people are talking about on this thread.

There is a mechanism by which a uni can release an applicant from an unconditional firm offer - which is what you've now got if you've accepted the changed course offer. Strictly speaking this is supposed to be used occasionally; theoretically it is possible for you to ask the uni to release you after all, and you will then go in to Clearing. However, they may not activate this immediately, and until you have your Clearing number you can talk to other unis but nothing can come of it.

Given how very tight Clearing is this year, I would consider very carefully the risks of swapping a course at a uni you know about, for a course and uni you probably won't know anything about. This is not to say that you should take this changed course no matter what - if you are really sure that it's the wrong choice then go ahead - but bear in mind you may not be able to find a better alternative in Clearing. Mind you, just not going to uni at all at this point could be a good decision.

Only you really know what the issues are for you and what the balance of risk is worth to you.

In that case, just contact UCAS and withdraw your whole application. It would be courteous to let the uni know that you are doing this - but an email will suffice.

    Guys need urgesnt help!!

Now basically i got an offer from one of my courses and they are firms, and now i want to go to my local university through clearence, which they said they can accept me for, but because my other two offers are firm i cant go in for clearing. Is it possible at all to contact them and tell them to reject me, as a family member is really ill and i want to be with them, so i want to go to a closer university to home.

If i phone them and tell them to reject me after they have confirmed me and give me a firm, will i be able to go in for clearing?

    Help will be appreciated!
    Thank You

It depends on the university, it shouldn't take them that long though. UCAS wont do anything, it all has to be done through your universities. Once you have asked to be released you can still ring around for clearing vacancies and explain that you're waiting to be released into clearing.

    I just have one question:

Is it possible if you are unhappy with you AS grades, to apply for a deffered entry and only choose an insurance, so that in the gap year re-apply to another university that was initially personally desired, and then firm that unconditional and leave the insurance? But if you do not receive an unconditional, choose the insurance as there is no firm?
