Work Experience/Extra Curricular stuff for politics?

Hi

I want to apply for a politics/philosophy degree next year and was wondering what kind of extras or work experience I could try and do.

I can take up debating/MUNGA at college next year, but am not doing anything directly related this year. I was hoping to get involved with one of the parties at the general election and maybe do some work experience with my local council member or MP this summer.

What else (apart from reading) can I do to make myself a good candidate for universities?

Just after my GCSEs I did a week of work experience with a local newspaper, which was great, I learned a lot. It's good in terms of current affairs and just learning about the workings of an industry which perhaps you might be interested in after uni? I don't know. I'm hoping to study politics at uni, so I'm planning to get some work experience with an MP or something too :biggrin:
