Can I apply for clearing after failed Extra

I was going to try and use extra; as I no longer wish to go to a University. Say, for example, I was to go through extra, and I was somehow unsuccessful, with no other options available, could I still try in clearing after it?

Or can you only do either extra or clearing?

You can still try Clearing after Extra, yes.
And even if you get 'Unsuccessful' from an Extra choice, you can add another Extra choice up until it closes.
