I'm a first year at the mo studying psychology. I love it here. Everything is so convenient and there's a good nightlife...something for everyone. I love the university, I can't imagine having gone elsewhere. The campus is literally less than 2 minutes away from the accommodation so you dont have to get out of bed too early for lectures haha

As for psychology, it's really interesting. Some of the lecturers are annoying and others are great, but I suppose that's the same for any university. This year I'm doing 6 hours a week at most and have 2 days off! It's great lol. There isn't too much work to do either and deadlines are always at least a month away from when it is set.

Have you been to any open days? Have you applied for Lincoln?

If there's anything else you'd like to know then I'll try to help lol

if you're not starting for a few years then its important to note that in the past few years, Lincoln uni has jumped right up the Times uni league table, and will most likely to continue climbing. and also, that the grade qualifications needed to get in may change in 3 years time.

I did psychology, but quit the course and transferred to another. it just wasn't for me. I did gcse psychology as well as a level, and it was more different than I expected. however I do still love the uni itself which is why I chose to transfer to a different degree at the same place.

I thought they were opening this September? That's what the big banner says, anyway.
I'm quite excited about the mock court room, I hope it won't be a disappointment! (Which is not the business part but in the same building)

The building is going to be business and law, so roughly one floor for each faculty and then the rest will probably be used for more enterprise@Lincoln stuff. It was supposed to be finished for september but they had issues with the planners having stupid requests so the start was delayed.

According to the Times league tables, Lincoln Uni is the most improved University in the country.
Being so new compared to others, it doesnt have the academic reputation yet, but the academics, facilities and campuses are really top notch...

I'm the Business School Liaison Rep for the Faculty, and am also the Campaigns Officer for the Students Union; I've seen the plans, passed on student opinions and talked about many aspects of the new building.

The building itself will not be divided by school, and we have nothing to do with Enterprise; it will be a purely academic space.

That's funny, I'm a long term student who was in a meeting with STEM about the building whilst the plans were public, the plans for the BUSINESS AND LAW building was going to have Law firms operating from within the building along with business space. Rooms were going to be colour coded depending on department, so how you can say that's not "divided by school" I don't know.

Lincoln University is not respected because compared to most other universities it does not have a large research team, the uni is trying to cash in on business incubation to bridge this and make a quick buck whilst helping out the community.

The facilities are not top notch, the new engineering building going to be built is short on space, poor equipped workshop, the library is short on essential reading books (asking a class of 30 to do an essay on a subject when the library only has 2 copies of that book) The architecture building has ventilation issues which are a design fault, LPAC was built on a budget and does not have enough studio space, especially when those departments are trying to expand. Product design currently operates from portacabins which I still find really funny considering the amount of spare space in the arch building after the survey of what rooms are used and not.

Best of all, the SU building is not run by the SU, the bar is empty most nights and not competitively priced, compare that to the shed which is full. The uni has real problems looking forwards as the shop was moved 3 times... back to where it is now.

There is a small space set aside on the ground floor which will be used to deliver specialist, independent courses and for use by those businesses who contributed to the cost of the building, but there are no ties intended between the B&L faculty and enterprise further than what already exist. As stated before, it will be a purely academic space.

You suggested schools were to be divided by floor, which isn't happening....
There is a 2-colour scheme planned throughout the building, which, as far as I know doesn't represent the two schools, as many of the rooms will be shared. The only 'department' with its own colour scheme is the area subsidised by other businesses.

As for the facilities, they are - in my opinion - truly top notch; I admit, with the number of students coming to the University increasing quickly, compromises have been made, but on the whole it's the best equipped I've visited.
...and I've never had trouble finding the books I need in the library.

As for the Student Union, the Union has no commercial ventures in its building; the Engine Shed - completely separate entity - works in partnership with us, but as you say, is owned by the university; we're looking at how we can improve this relationship, but unfortunately with other places like The Shed (my bar of choice :P) around, I don't see the Uni wanting to take risks, particularly with funding cuts imminent...
