Calling all Literature students....I'm I just being stupid?
I'm hoping to apply to Edinburgh who do either or both English or Scottish literature. I love the place and the way it is taught/structured but I have one concern....
Because its English and Scottish literature wont I come out of the degree program with a very imcomplete view of literature? I know that also includes quite alot of North American literature but its still only English language literature that I'll have studied....Is this a problem in your opinion? Obviously it is impossible to have a fully comprehensive view of all literature (it is after all a four yr course...) But wont I be missing out on an awful lot?
I suppose the reason that this has come to the forefront of my mind at the moment is I am currently going through a stage of reading and throughly enjoying a lot of South American and Japanese literature (translated into english obviously...) and it hit me that at Edinburgh this kind of exploration couldnt happen. It also means that I have to word my personal statement carefully if I want to mention these.
I dunno what I'm wanting to hear really...perhaps I'm just being stupid? or perhaps its a valid point and I should take it into consideration? Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences that could help me? thanks peacenik xx
