5 things to conquer at Uni
Discussion for current and prospective students about social life at university, societies, what stationery and bedroom items to buy and anything else relating to life as a university student.

Re: 5 things to conquer at UniYeah, the fire alarm in my room does that (en-suite(Original post by Olibert)
Still set off fire alarms though
) and it's annoying as hell (thought a refreshing shower at 4am was a good idea, nobody else did standing outside in the ice cold wind...
)
Freshers fortnight almost killed me... two weeks of getting drunk every night, bleurgh.
Another tip: Make sure you're dosed up on medicine, fresher's flu really is horrible

Re: 5 things to conquer at Uni
GET LEAN!
lol
seriously, im almost done with uni, and I wish I did more to be honest (like join societys and clubs etc. go gym with my mate who's a machine and would've tought me a good technique, attend lectures, lol)
however, I did get absolutley mashed with friends and get a good gf.....
I don't think i balanced it very well.
my best advicewould be to not give a **** in the first year, (smoke weed everyday, sacrifice lectures for going out the night before, trash your halls, get withn some fiiiine girls) second year treat uni like a 9-5, then a third year you will be set with some good habits and everything should fall into place
also use the summer between 2nd year and 3rd year to crack on with your dissertation. You will have approx 12 weeks off, even just 500 words per week will set you up pretty sweet (or just completing ALL of your research
kids take my advice, really wish i was advised this when I was 18.... -
Re: 5 things to conquer at Uni
To be honest I think everyone's ambitions should be to just go with no expectations except to have a goood time and take the days as they come, seizing the opportunities. If you're laid back, people are more likely to like you. If you seem desperate to make friends or create an image of popularity, or create the image of being hardcore in drunkenness, you'll have made an error. That's the first mistake some people make, they try too hard and as a result grate on people from some errors in judgement.

Re: 5 things to conquer at Uni
Get crazily drunk at freshers, 5 nights in a row
You WILL do this, even if you didn't think you would
Join a mad dance show
Go ahead
Organize my own modellign catwalk fashion show with my clothign line
Probably
Find Luurve
Forget it.
Set off the fire alarms in my halls with my GHD's
Don't even ******* think about it. -
Re: 5 things to conquer at Uni
I did all of those (well I modelled IN a fashion show and the love was short lived), minus the GHD thing...if anything, that would be the worst thing to do.
I think if I could go back again my 5 things to do would be:
1. Join the student radio and newspaper while I've still got a light workload. I'm still doing it now but it's annoying that I had all that free time and just threw it away on drink and drug benders...
2. Get a 2.1 in first year. If I had done (I scraped a pass, incidentally), then perhaps I would have been able to do a year abroad next year. Oh well.
3. Stop worrying about what people think about you and don't be eager to make friends, let them just happen. I did in first year, and it took me an entire year to develop a thicker skin and not give a ****...then again I was in the poshest halls with the bitchiest people...turns out the people I wanted to befriend weren't worth it, and the people I ended up sharing a house with in 2nd year are a really nice bunch people who make me laugh, and who I know will be friends for life.
4. Join a band. Still haven't found one/made one but hardly anyone I know seems to value playing an instrument, it's all about the 'DJing'. Ugh.
5. Learn to cook properly. A far cry from the daily fare of Super Noodles and Cup A Soups in first year (OK, I exaggerate, I sometimes pushed the boat out and made pasta). I've only just started learning now and turns out I love making gourmet meals.
To be honest, drinking and drugging gets old. Really old. Everyone is still obsessed with the whole culture but tbh I'm halfway through a degree and thinking less about the now and more about the future... -
Re: 5 things to conquer at UniActually you don't have to make it extra steamy. Hang up the item on a hanger on the back of the door, have your bath or shower as normal and take it out as you leave. That should be enough to get the creases out unless you were only in there for 2minutes. Alternatively buy/borrow an iron...(Original post by Olibert)
GHD's? I set our firealarm off trying to get the creases out my shirt by steaming it in the shower

Re: 5 things to conquer at Unilol, that reminded me of a guy who burst into the doctors and just shouted "where do you get checked for STI's?!"(Original post by BeckysLover)
1.Get laid(Fresher **** as some like to call it)
2.Get laid
3.Recover after getting an STI
4.Don't tell anyone you had a STI and get laid
5.Get a 1st
Where in Sutton are you from?
