What would happen if I didnt take the actor seriously and laughed (at them) in an OSCE? -
Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!Do you really need to ask that?(Original post by AtomicMan)

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!Rumour has it Aberdeen will be doing the same, though timescale has not been confirmed.(Original post by gozatron)
Just incase any potential applicants were wondering, Birmingham is likely to be going from panel interviews to MMI's for the next set of applicants. -
Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!Yeh it seems like our Dean was implying that other medical schools were going down that path aswell. I think the plan is for a 4 stage MMI next year followed by a full scale one MMI for year after,(Original post by TooSexyForMyStethoscope)

I actually think it's a really good step. Personally I liked MMI more than panel and I think it test so much more with all the scenarios and it being longer in some cases.(Original post by TooSexyForMyStethoscope)

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!I actually know someone who made the actor laugh in a "breaking bad news" station, but still passed. I guess it would be worse the other way round.(Original post by digitalis)

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!Oh dear lol.(Original post by Helenia)
I actually know someone who made the actor laugh in a "breaking bad news" station, but still passed. I guess it would be worse the other way round.
But I was envisaging more of a 'I think of got cancer' situation cue examinee pointing and laughing at the actor -
Re: Length of Speciality in Neurosurgery
I think it's 8 years after foundation training, so 10 total.

Of course, this assumes that you get onto a run-through programme first time (as I understand it, a LOT of neurosurgical trainees have not come straight from the foundation programme - quite a few have done Core Surgical Training already), that you pass all your exams and your annual assessments satisfactorily, that you don't take time out to do a PhD/MD and that you can walk straight into a consultant job on completing specialist training. That's quite a few hurdles, and means that it takes a fair few years longer than that for many people. -
Re: Length of Speciality in NeurosurgeryTen years! It's not exactly rocket science.(Original post by Elwyn)
