Re: Anybody get into med school with 3 AS Levels THIS year? 2012 Entry!Thank you.(Original post by Beska)
Have a look through the late part of this thread for applicant profiles for 2012 entry.
I had a look through it and I cant find anyone with only 3 AS Levels
Do universities still place a lot of emphasis on AS's, if you apply post A2? -
Re: Anybody get into med school with 3 AS Levels THIS year? 2012 Entry!Universities won't care about your AS levels If you already have your full A levels. In fact you don't even have to list your AS grades (apart from stand alone subjects) because they get subsumed by the completed grade. However you would only be able to apply to universities which accept only 3 A levels. A lot require a fourth subject at AS to be at a certain grade. Some of those medical schools will let the issue slide if they receive written confirmation that your school or college only lets their students take a maximum of three AS levels.(Original post by sanaindaclub)
Thank you.

Re: Anybody get into med school with 3 AS Levels THIS year? 2012 Entry!Well they're two of the most oversubscribed med schools.(Original post by sanaindaclub)
Thank you. looks like leeds and soton are my only options. Feeling quite depressed about my prospects!
What about
- Aberdeen
- Bristol
- Dundee
- Durham
- Glasgow
- Leicester
- Manchester
- Newcastle
- Nottingham
- Sheffield
I don't think any of those require a fourth AS subject? -
Re: Anybody get into med school with 3 AS Levels THIS year? 2012 Entry! Most do. I checked EVERY medical schools website seperately. The scottish ones dont but Bristol, Manchester, Nottingham etc do. Thank you though.(Original post by myyrh)

Re: Anybody get into med school with 3 AS Levels THIS year? 2012 Entry! My mistake. Can't your school/college write to Manchester about this? Also wouldn't you consider the scottish medical schools?(Original post by sanaindaclub)

Re: Anybody get into med school with 3 AS Levels THIS year? 2012 Entry! Not necessarily. As long as you have a competitive application you stand an equal chance. Glasgow for instance select applicants for interview based solely on UKCAT (I think). I would say Leeds is pretty tough to get into because of the competition in numbers and Southampton because they don't interview.(Original post by sanaindaclub)

The NHS history??
I was doing some research and stumbled upon a piece of information that I don't fully understand.
In 1991, the government introduced a purchaser-provider split. This meant that that funding was not handled directly by the government and something else that I don't quite understand.
Just wanted to know what exactly this means.
Thanks -
Re: The NHS history??
Hi, you should find this link helpful. Essentially it meant that rather than the Government directly paying hospitals to provide care, instead the money was paid to NHS managers who then purchased care on behalf of the Government. Sounds a little pointless but it's actual purpose was to create competition and help drive down prices and secure good contracts.

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!
Hey,
I was interested in applying to Soton. On their website there is a paragraph for non-graduate mature students over 21.
Now I was wondering if I am a school leaver who is 21, am I eligible to apply?
And does anyone know how competitive these places are.. Would appreciate any figures. -
Re: Medical school offersThe Uni is obliged accept you on to the course if its your firm choice and you've met the conditions of your offer. If more people than places get the grades, they will all be accepted, however the Uni will be heavily fined for each person they go over the number of places by.(Original post by 00raiser)
Hey guys, quick question...
You know how universities give more offers than they have places for. (in case people reject or not get the grades)
But what if there are more people got the grades than there are places for, what would happen then??? -
Applying for medicine in 2013
Hi, I'm currently an undergraduate student studying Biomedical sciences. Just completed second year and want to apply for medicine for 2013.
Planning to give UCAS a ring tomorrow but I would like to ask a couple of questions here as well.... Sorry if they sound silly.
I've used UCAS before, so should I use the same login when applying? Or should I create a new account?
When do you register with UCAS to apply for 2013?
Thanks -
Re: Applying for medicine in 2013Yes, you'll need a new account. Old login won't allow you to submit into 2013 cycle.(Original post by stef n)

Registration opens around the beginning of September.(Original post by stef n)
