Re: Becoming a doctor - so it's five years...right?As for your GCSEs, don't stress too much about them. E-mail Birmingham and check what they accept; if it doesn't sound like you stand a decent chance there, apply somewhere else.(Original post by sixthformer)
I've really researched it , but clearly it's confusing me still.
Is it 5 years or 6, if you intercalate , then you're a trainee doctor? You're qualified, but still in training, yes.
Do you get paid in any of these years? You start getting paid as an FY1, after you graduate
When do you start getting paid?
If you wish to become a GP how do you become one? Apply for the GPVTS in your F2 year; if you get accepted then it's currently 3 years of training, but is likely to become more soon.
How do you trust yourself to make the right call with patients? Experience, practice, getting help from your seniors, and occasionally cocking it up.
Do you develop as a person? Obviously.
Is there room for romance/a life? Yes, though it's not always easy. Certainly through med school it's not much of a problem; once you qualify it can be tough to stay in touch with non-medic friends if you are always working evenings/weekends. Doctors have very high divorce rates. -
Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!
Hey
Right for SGUL, I'm sure you all know the offer is AAA/b. But with Welsh Bacc (a very vocational 'a-level'), the offer is just AB in chemistry and biology, plus the welsh bacc. Does anyone know if this is right? It seems a bit too good to be true for me. If it is right though.... YIPPEE!

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions! They didn't require UKCAT when I applied, could have changed by now though so check it out.(Original post by Mickyy)
anything i should look out for when applying to liverpool?
I don't think they have any particular key things to look out for, the interview's a big part of their selection so be ready for it, but it really isn't scary.
I got some guy that looked like Santa Claus as one of my interviewers which helped my nerves

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!Don't take my word alone for this, I don't want to lead you up the creek, but from what I can tell they focus more on your personal statement and experiences.(Original post by Mickyy)
thanks

I think so long as you've go decent grades they'll be more interested in picking the best work experience and statement for interview than strictly the top grades.
Then again, great grades never hurt

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!
Hi,
I don't know if I should choose East Anglia or Aberdeen
My GCSEs are 3 A*s 8A's (2 on short course) and 1B
My AS's are BBCC (not cashing in and hopefully being predicted 3 A's for)
My UKCAT is 600.
Which university is more suitable based on my academic grades and would be the better option? -

Have you got any books you can recommend to me for medicine? -
Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!I had one and it was worth it because I went to almost all the events (bar movie night etc)(Original post by SyedT)
Hi
Do you think it's worth getting the freshers' passport for Imperial's freshers' fortnight?Apparently the events are harder to get into if you don't have a passport?
Thanks
Also some things like the boat party they don't always have enough tickets for those who want to go, passports already have them. Some friends missed out on that last year as a result. The saving isn't much but it has the benifits of these plus as you have paid it you want to go to use it. Making you more sociable in a sense.
Plus it is cool

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!Apparently there's no point trying to go to sleep early there, because you won't be able to(Original post by crazylemon)

I was there and I know a reap there. Possibly more.. (did know 2 but 1 had to pull out
)

Not that I plan on doing that
