Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!I would strongly recommend that you only apply to either medicine or dentistry. Not both.(Original post by MedicalMayhem)
Haha okay, thanks for your advice
I'm quite set on medicine at the moment, just though I might as well try, seeing as I'll leave it blank otherwise
Did you have a fifth choice by any chance?
I might contact them later, after my GCSEs. Exams are so stressful!
Although you may be attracted to both, they are very different professions. Do as much work experience as you can in each and then see which you can see yourself doing the most. The traditional route into maxfax is dentistry first, then medicine. Although it can be useful to have a specific specialty in mind, I can assure you that your views will change over the years. Just focus on getting the grades and getting into uni
I did have a fifth choice but to be perfectly honest I would never have taken it if I hadn't got into medicine. -
Re: Grades for medical schoolNot particularly, tbh.(Original post by omar_96)
Also does D of E at silver make a difference as well for me? -

Hey guys,
I know UCL is funny about resitting some modules, but I was just wondering if they look at UMS marks? I thought it was only Cambridge, but just checking.
Thankss
UCL don't have to have the UMS, but AS grades do matter now.(Original post by Beska)
Depends on medical school. AS grades don't really matter outside of Cambridge.
"The UCAS application must list final A-level grade predictions (from the referee) along with the actual grades
achieved at AS-level in Year 12 in order for the candidate to be considered further. A strong performance at ASlevel
is expected from prospective medical students, particularly in Chemistry and Biology." SourceLast edited by Markh1000; 10-06-2011 at 13:12. -
Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions! Thanks, but the way I'm thinking now, is that I won't take my fifth choice as I only want to do medicine (at the moment). But then I might as well try (however minimal my chances) as for dentistry as the last option rather than leaving it blank. I'll probably get rejected the day after, but who knows(Original post by TooSexyForMyStethoscope)

Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions!
I don't know if this applies for this thread but hey, i'll ask anyway.
Can we contact unis to let them know if any problems arise during exams?
E.g) Today in my final chem exam, (20%), two seperate fires alarms went off so we were forced to stop the exam and leave the exam hall on two occasions which really threw me off my concentration. Thus, i don't think i've done enough to meet my offer. Should i email them directly or go through my exam officer? -
Re: Hyper Awesome mega thread for simple applicant questions! Both! Can't hurt. You will almost definitely get some extra % from your exam officer/exam board, and letting the medical schools knows in advance in case you drop a grade is never a bad thing.(Original post by gozatron)

Have A Question Regarding The Medical Admissions Process? Fire Away
Hi There Guys,
If you have any question whatsoever regarding the entire application process to Medical School in the UK, please fire away
First off, I am matriculating in Imperial College this year. I applied and received offers from three out of the four schools in this order:
Imperial College [Accepted]
Kings College [Accepted]
Barts aka Queen Mary [Accepted]
University College London [Rejected]
Me and my friend will be starting a blog soon regarding the whole process. I know its really daunting applying to Med school. Truth is, TSR was a really great resource when I applied and I picked up a lot of useful information here.
So.. if you have any question regarding:
1) UKCAT or BMAT
2) Personal Statement Writing
3) Medical School Interviews
4) Generic Questions
Just fire away and I will do my very best to answer them!Last edited by tayjuno; 17-06-2011 at 15:09. -

Is that yes to chemistry and no to biology?
No, he obviously said the yes and no for each subject in a different order from what you put in your post...

Re: Have A Question Regarding The Medical Admissions Process? Fire AwayHi There,(Original post by total2009)
Congratulations on the offers.
What was your UKCAT and have you got any tips on abstract reasoning.
Was QR as difficult as the 600Q book or much easier?
Do you know the cut-off scores for KCL and QMUL?
Much appreciated
I scored an average of 692.5 for my UKCAT. Unfortunately, I can't remember the scores for each component however. They were pretty consistent.
Rest assured that the QR is not as difficult!
However, one gripe I have with the 600 QNs is that it doesn't really prepare you for the actual UKCAT. The questions are much simpler and the essence is time & accuracy.
As for the cut off, it might be slightly different now seeing. However, as long as your academic grades are good, armed with a decent personal statement, it shouldnt be too hard to get an interview with a 690 score. Anything about 700 is great.
One thing to note however, I have seen a lot of people scoring extremely high 700+ but it didnt really help them with their overall application other than getting them an interview.
Hope that helps.
