At our uni we have a quota! And we're only allowed to use it for a certain amount of time (ie. not more than one hour per 12 hours, or two hours per day  ).

That's why I haven't been able to post on here lately :frown: *cries*
Do you reckon I'll still be able to keep my internet site then?

Also, what about msn? I just spend 2 days teaching my mother how to use it so we may talk via that. Is it just some universities or all?

If anyone knows what the internet is like at Bangor, could they let me know?

Yes

They'res bound to be at least one Comp geek around, buy him/her a drink and they'll sort it out for you  - there are plenty of HTTP, IRC, EXE based solutions for connecting to MSN. In addition to using your own proxies, port hopping etc.

I'm very "American" like, in that I don't like using phones for texting and much prefer IM! (Even though I'm a brit :P) MSN all the way!

my pc has a wireless conection reciever i am sure it can spoof out a couple of wireless connections cause i am sure universities have a few wireless conections which are un-resitricted

Good luck with that. We tried that at college, within 60 seconds a guy from the tech department had come to the room we were in and asked my friend why he was connected and what he was doing infront of the class lol. He said if he did it again he would take away his laptop, so i said: "So, you're going to steal his laptop. Why don't you secure your network instead?". He just left the room then

But seriously, they will be able to detect it and it's not a good idea to use an unprotected wireless network without permission.
good advice mate, i dont want to be done on the first week of uni

Oh right... strange, a mate of mine (who goes to Ports and was in halls) mentioned that they'd sent emails around about DC+++ and blocked it?

Ah well  Have to see what happens at Nottm...

I used DC++ in halls all the time and never had any issues. Your friend is misinformed

DC++ was blocked at Warwick for a short time last year. My boyfriend told me it was because someone was "misusung" it. so probably downloading porn.
Your uni should have an IT department website. I just checked out mine:

http://www.uea.ac.uk/itcs/residences/res_cou.shtml

I'd assume most would be faily similar, basically they block/forbid any P2P but let you use it for 'social' things such as MSN.
