well whats yours

my point was that you have no point.
jj.
so are you trying to say that st georges is an inferior medical school?

Oh my goodness...I picked two medical schools off the top of my head to try and prove my point. I don't know anything about either.

well i think toosexyformystethoscope is trying to imply that a degree from st georges is less than one from newcastle. which goes against your point doesnt it?

hmm, is it just me or did your red bar increase? Anyway, you completely missed stethoscope's post, so re-read it and try again.
ahh i agree, all medical schools seem pretty amazing
i remember when i first started thinking about medicine and thinking oxford would be the only one i'd want to go to :p: but now i realise that i wouldn't mind any med school  as long as i can be a doctor in the long run then imma happy person

You've only started this thread because you're going to Aberdeen, haha. :p:

your kidding right?

I agree with this, though some places in america WILL help you much more than others. Graduating from John Hopkins and Harvard will get you more places than Baylor and UCLA. I personally see the med school you goto as a stepping stone to internship. As when you work with people at a certain hospital you are more inclined to want to work there and apply there.

hmm? since when? surely you don't put your med school down on MTAS?

No, not on your application for Foundation Training. Once you start applying for Specialty Training then all your information is taken into consideration and the level of competition is very intense.

On a related note, can people stop private messaging me to ask which medical school is better than any other. I've no intention of attempting to rank medical schools. Do your research and decide where you want to apply to - its as much luck as anything whether you'll get an offer.
..if they're all the same apart from the uni's reputation then why not try for the one of the 'top ' schools?

Cos if I don't get rep then my whole world will be crushed...

To summarise, it doesn't matter a great deal, but it does matter after your foundation years for highly competative specialities.

Do you release what you just said. If they're all the same why not try for a better one...
This time last year, when I saw people arguing over medical school prestige I just thought 'this is ridiculous'. At the end of the course everyone knows the same core stuff.

Yeah...I meant 'better' in terms of the uni's reputation overall.

what about if you get ABB in a levels? then it will right?

hey i didnt pm you...

I'm happy to confirm you didn't. But 5 other people did, and I wanted to say to them and anyone else who was considering PMing me that I don't want to attempt to rank medical schools

I see what you are saying, i'm not saying people don't have other considerations such as location and general 'friendlyness' when choosing a uni. I was referring to certain 2011 applicants whose posts are getting increasingly annoying...

but surely the things which get you the post will be your clinical skills, what you did during the foundation years, possibly any other degrees you have, etc. and not your medical school. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

Everyone has the core, to meet the GMCs standard.

But when you think of it - not all medical graduates can be equal because we don't all start medical school at 18 with the same knowledge base. Some entrants to medical school have got First class / 2:1 degrees in neuroscience or pharmacology or whatever before starting their medical degree, others may even have completed a PhD. Then there's those that intercalate to specialise in a particular area, or attended medical schools that had a heavier focus on anatomy and full body dissection than others.

For some jobs in medicine, intercalation, experience of full body dissections, or previous relevant degrees may not make any difference to your competitiveness but for others it might.

When I applied - all I was interested in was 'getting in'. It will only be after getting the medical degree and completing foundation training that I'll know whether any of this makes any difference. By then, the application system for speciality training may well have changed completely anyway.

Why worry.
