You want a degree that's accredited by the IBMS (Institute of Biomedical Science). Here's a link to the IBMS's list of accredited courses (which includes Cardiff  ):

accredidation mean if you want to work as a biomed you need to have a accredited degree by the IBMS so you can than enter for training and so you can the HPC and well work as biomed within the NHS and so on
If you don't have an accredited course you can do a top up at a uni. I knew a girl who was working at micro who was attending essex uni for certain modules while completing her portfolio at work.
But if you wanted to work in the NHS you might as well get an accredited degree the first time round. I'm doing 3 modules to get accredited now but it would obviously have been easier to do the whole degree from the start as you get placements and your portfolio started/finished (not sure on that) while on the course. Slightly easier to get a trainee job afterwards.
Its worth doing an accredited degree with a year out in to get your IBMS certificate of competence done for the NHS too to try and get a job after. Its easily done in 9 months on placement
