Depends on how they abuse their power. I'd say threatening to kill people if they don't vote for you is evil.

Why? Why does he want to stay in power? Is it pure megalomania, or from (at least partly) a desire to do good.

Anyway that's a bit irrelevant, I didn't dispute that actions were not evil, I'm not talking about actions though, but people.

Probably to do more evil if anything, just loving the power that they have.

Not totally irrelevant because, in my opinion, behind evil actions are evil people.

Well I think anyone can have evil thoughts, however I only believe the truely evil people are the ones who will actually carry out the evil actions.

Conservatives. Michael Howard, Margaret Thatcher, George Osborne...all have something 'evil' about them. I don't know what though. :emo:
They all have a stereotype that you've happily bought into

Evil is subjective. History is written by the survivors. Anyone can be considered to be good or evil depending on how the balance of their actions is assessed. Does one particularly evil act outweigh millions of good ones? How about vice versa? Does the motive behind the action matter or is the effect more important? The last pope probably contributed significantly to the spread of HIV/Aids and other STI's, yet he claimed to act out of love for the sanctity of marriage.

Yes definitely. Many african politicians are evil because the evil things they do arent even motivated by love of a people only of them and their family!

Can you actually call someone 'evil'? Isn't it always a very subjective issue?

Take Mao for instance - much of what he has done in his life was 'good' and many people were able to benefit from it. At some point, however, he went a bit nuts and started to act in a way that was at least questionable. Many would say it was 'wrong' - but 'evil'?

the thread title is rather silly.

edit: to elabourate as i didn't actually read your thread... yes, evil people can 'love' in their own twisted way, doesn't make them any less evil.

Fair enough - you surely can call the (current) pope 'evil'. I guess I just made my former post redundant.

Lol, I don't know how you can say that Hitler was not inspired by hatred for the Jews.

Anyway, people can love and do evil things. I don't know what "being evil" is other than being sadistic, and of course there are sadistic politicians. Gratuitously controversial thread.
