    Opal One Accommodation
Just wondered if anyone else has seen the show flat for Opal One on Parker Street, and whether they'll be applying for that accommodation.

It was the only place I had time to look at when I was in Dundee, so I've got no idea how it compares to other places like Meadowside etc. but I want a room with internet and en suite, any suggestions? Also would like to be in the best halls for a decent freshers week, dunno if location affects that much or more just the people living there.

    Cheers.

I was also considering Opal 1, I'll be at Univ of Dundee, at the thought of a 'just finished' accommodation sounds good, although it is a bit farther away then most of the uni's flats. So how did it look? Do the rooms look the same as in the pics? How spacious would you say the Standard Room was?

Yeah the rooms are decent, I was surprised at how spacey they are compared to friend's accommodation that I've been in. The kitchen area is nice too, I've got a standard plus room as my first choice.

What accommodation is your friend in?
I'd also go for the standard plus, but I'm not sure what to choose, Dundee's halls or Opal. Opal would be new, close to the uni and cheap if I pay it one installment , but in the uni's halls I am guaranteed to live with people "at a similar stage of their academic career" :p:
Also, do you happen to know what's the difference between standard and standard plus?

What else did you choose? Are you saying....that there are no more places at the good halls?

The Hub also looks good, doesn't it? And their prices aren't even that high.

Yeah...I made 5 choices and ended up with one that wasn't any of them.

What's the hub?? I haven't looked into that yet

I didn't mean in Dundee, just friends from other unis in different cities etc!

The difference between standard and standard plus seems to be the bed is larger and a few other things like extra shelves and stuff I think. Also the room is a bit bigger.

Oh, ok, sorry then, don't know why I thought it was also in Dundee. Thanks for all the info.

No problem, you're in luck because I found the leaflet thing they gave me on the tour.

    Standard bedroom:
    Ensuite with single bed
    Study desk
    Internet connection
    Wardrobe
    Desk chair
    Shelves
    Underbed storage
    Room size = 11m squared

    Then standard plus bedroom:
Same as above but the bed is 4ft wide
    Has a sofa
    Room size = 14.5m squared

Just out of interest are you in the UK already or coming over in September?

Thanks! Wow they're offering pretty much for a small difference of money. I thought the sofa and larger bed are in the deluxe one.
Coming in September, any other reason besides the curiosity ? Where are you from?

Sorry guys for all the quoting, I just wanna make sure you see my answer fast.

Yeah the deluxe room has a double bed, the standard plus is a big bed but not quite as big. Was just curious because I was looking at studying in Europe a while ago and it's really difficult to decide on accommodation from across the sea, that's all (I'm from England)

Tell me about it! It sure is hard.

I applied for accommodation at the uni halls, and as I wait, I am having second thoughts. Still thinking about Opal, but I'm worried about the "we aim to get it done by 11th September, but if not, we'll accommodate you in a similar place". How were they doing when you visited?

Also, why do I have to pay 225 when booking? After I book, it's done, don't I have to wait for a confirmation or smth? I was thinking of applying for Opal as well as the halls and then give up on one of them when I find out what hall am I in.
After you applied, did you received some kind of letter telling you what room you'll be in?

It's all done through email, they'll get in touch with everyone at the end of May to let them know if they got their #1 choice or not. If you haven't already, you should email accommo@abertay.ac.uk ASAP. They will reply on Monday if you do it this weekend, they're really helpful whenever I asked them stuff.

No idea about payments etc, I applied for Opal and haven't had to pay anything yet  Also, it looked like they were getting along well with the building and it ought to be ready on time. If it isn't I'll be pissed off

I am italian, and I applied for opal... through the university... I hope to get it, or another en-suite room... anyway I have never visited it, so I also hope that the building is ok and all finished at the start of September...

I'm not at Abertay so I have to apply directly. At booking, I'll pay 225 pounds = 2 week's rent and a tax for testing the electronics (or smth like that), and if I change my mind in 14 days I'll get a refund. As I am not from the UK and don't have a guarantor, I'll have to pay the whole rent at the start of school. This, and the uncertainty of them finishing by 11th of September makes me wanna wait for my letter from Uni of Dundee. Oh and also,my course starts 6th September. That means my first week... in hostel? Don't know....I've wrote Opal Dundee an e-mail, they probably will reply on monday.

Alhaziel, good luck the building will be ok, let's just hope for finished as well, hehe

I was late meaning I only got a standard room, oh well, its better than my current bed/bedroom. (mattress on the floor(******* IKEA and their impossible build instructions), clothes strewn across floor)
