As the title says, I need to update my music collection

Therefore, I would like all you lovely people to tell me some good bands I should listen to!

Ones which aren't mainstream would be very much appreciated and bands which I'm obsessed with currently include:

    Mayday Parade
    Jack's Mannequin
    Dashboard Confessional
    Lifehouse
    Kids In Glass Houses
    Lady Antebellum
    Something Corporate
    3 Doors Down
    30 Seconds To Mars
    3Oh!3

    Thanks (:

Liquid Confidence by You me at 6 is surprisingly good. In this case I don't actually care that it isn't cool music-wise

I used to listen to [email protected], but slowly just didn't enjoy it as much anymore.

I'll have another listen though, I need something to pass time :P

    Broadway Calls.
    Forever The Sickest Kids.

It's not my cup of tea but I know that sort of music.

Yeah, Kings of Leon's older stuff is certainly worth a listen if you haven't already OP. Particularly the first 2 albums.

I'm currently in love with Sigor Ros, Animal Collective and Vampire Weekend. All well worth a try also.

It upsets you so you give examples of bands which I don't think are my taste? Smooth

    Why does it upset you?

as per usual i'm feeling that need to put big sarcasm warnings on my posts  though i'm quite happy to say only about 3 of the bands you listed are any good, the rest sound pretty average

also you did ask for less mainstream suggestions :p: and they are suggestions, i can suggest what i like, whether you listen to them or not is up to you.

jeez, someone asks for suggestions, you provide them and you get shot down

I only like 2 of the bands you listed out of your list. Well, 2 that I remember, anyway (The Clash and SLF). And they are pretty mainstream, really. :p:
SLF not so much, but I've seen them about... 4 or 5 times live. They near enough always do a sell-out show, so that could be classed as kinda mainstream, in an abstract sense.

But I'm with you on your opinion on the OP having an appalling taste in music *high five*

they are now but they werent for their time. i've seen SLF too, great show

yeh i guess they're pretty mainstream in punk circles but you say it so most people and they reply is usually "who?" then again replacements arent too well known, their cover of "another girl another planet" by the only ones is the best i've heard yet i think

i was going to also list ramones, the cure, public image ltd, Adverts, Rezillos, Ruts etc but they seemed more mainstream, sort of anyway

also if you're open minded to japanese bands then FACT are really good

I'm personally more of a Second-Wave fan. Disorder, later Exploited material, Icons of Filth, A.O.A, Discharge, et al.
And the American Hardcore Punk scene is alright; A Global Threat, Career Soldiers, The Casualties, The Unseen, Choking Victim and friends (cba to type out all the bands connected to Choking Victim), MDC, Minor Threat, 7Seconds, etc.
